VAG will apparently cover the cost of EGR failures for 2 years after the fix according to watchdog.

Interesting to those who got stung for £800+ previously for a new cooler unit

Heard back from Skoda Customer Relations this morning.  They're refunding the cost of having the EGR replaced in early August but I'll be interested to know whether they're going to cover any ongoing costs ... EGR is clogged up again (after approx 2k miles since replacement).  It's with the Swansea dealership now, being looked at.

That is basically the same letter my brother had received but he had refused to pay for the part and they are refusing to put it right as they won't admit the problem is related. Glad you've got yours sorted and are no longer out of pocket.

Did you get to see the first original EGR that was replaced? There was a shortage of replacements and I have a suspicion that some dealers only took them out and tried to clean them before replacing them.  There is supposedly a new version of the EGR now available, so you should ask if you are getting one of those and ask to see the old one. There may also be a new update of the update, so you should ask about that too.

Yes, saw the original one when that was removed at the beginning of August.  I'll check with the Swansea dealership about the new version EGR and also ask them about the update of the update.  Thanks for the info, much appreciated.

?

Would that not require a UK Government / DfT / DVSA to require every registered keeper of remapped vehicle on the UK roads, or one not running engine management or even the engine as Factory Fitted, & as EU Type Approved or Manufacturer Approved to have their vehicle running some EU Approved Engine Management?

Most construction and use regs refer back to the EU legislation on items such as emissions. EU type approval would have covered the whole vehicle so it could be sold throughout the EU without further regional testing.

Construction and Use regs are good for taking dangerous modifications and conversions off the road and a useful tool for the police.

The lack of of action against VAG and its criminal breaking of the EU5 emissions regulations has been shocking. The EU wants member states to fine VAG for emissions but they have not broken any regional laws. It comes down to the country that gave the vehicles EU type approval as they broke the law by cheating these tests knowing them to be much more polluting. The EU can fine Germany for not taking action against these criminal acts as it has done with various other environmental pollution in states.

The UK that was only ever in the EU as an associate member (EU Light) & never introduced or enforced many things which peed off other EU countries but then they do their own thing as well.

As to non enforcement of modified vehicles, the DVLA and DfT / VOSA & now the DVSA allow owners of vehicles to change engines and fuels used

and would allow that on the nod with the paperwork done and sometimes a fee paid and sometimes an inspection.

All very random and location location location dependent.

This is the bit I was thinking of, kindly supplied by Huskoda in the original dieselgate thread:

"It is an offence under the Road vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations (Regulation 61a(3)) 1 to use a vehicle which has been modified in such a way that it no longer complies with the air pollutant emissions standards it was designed to meet."

Almost every remap I can imagine would void that requirement, including VW's own special little remap.

I would imagine that VW “fix” map would have had to go through type approval again especially with the added scrutiny they’ll be under now.

A remap down the local garage on a rolling road etc would be caught out under the C&U regs.

It all circles back round to coming under EU legislation and it’s orginal type approval

which refers to

Caught out how, by whom?

Do you mean "would/might contravene" the C&U regs?

C&U aren’t used a great deal as they mainly already covered by EU type approval. They are used by the police and HSE when vehicles are modified or previously not registered.

Plenty now getting a 'Roll Back',  and that is not at Asda, but at well know reputable Tuning / Remapping Specialists.

Vorsprung Durch Technik,  VW caught with Defeat Devices, 1.2 million TDI's to be given new software / engine management, a percentage get this, a percentage are messed up,

and for a couple of hundred quid someone will put your vehicle back running as before.

  • 4 weeks later...

In February 2017 Paul Willis testified that 20,000 a week were being dealt with in the UK, this surely was physically impossible,

he said 470,000 were done then. & it was said that only 1% were complaining.

I would expect the troubles will take some time.

When they’re well out of warranty though.

Correction, 470,00 in February.

Many of which were VW owned Fleet / Lease Cars.

Many of the 1.2 Million would be out of Manufacturers warranty anyway, so ones getting the fix at least get some kind of 24 month guarantee.

Those buying used ones the have been given the fix within the the past 2 years get some sort of cover, maybe just panned off though.

Some on here are being asked foe £99 diagnosis after the Fix by Dealerships others are not and getting new parts fitted.

No idea why actions are not proceeding against him and VW UK.

2015.

@8 Minutes,

'i know nothing mates, not me, know nothing, did nothing, going to sort it all out.

@ 47 minutes you get the now Sir Patrick Mc Loughlin,  then Secretary of State for Transport,

now Chairman of the Conservative & Unionist Party..

Maybe honoured from being useless, and deaf dumb and blind.
