Android Auto on 9.2" Columbus

You might be right, the resolution might not be 720p but it still should not look like this.

I remember at one point in the past I did not had this issue! But don’t know what changed, except updates to AA and Waze.

From memory, I got the jagged edges before enabling 720p on mine… not sure about the text though. I couldn’t use waze at all for a few weeks (only with AA) when they screwed up the search earlier in the year so they are more than capable of breaking it. I don’t have anything with TouchWiz, but have a few handsets with the Adreno 330 I can try tomorrow.

Force stop, clear all data then uninstall waze. Reinstall then go to Advanced Settings > Display & Map > Data Transfer > Tick: Download traffic info. Now search for several routes to build up the waze map cache while using your broadband wireless outside of AA. If the problem persists, have a look on the product forum and post the issue if nobody else has reported it:

will this fix the search issue in waze?

its ****ing me off that the waze search function is stuffed up - it gets hung-up on "calculating route".

its got no issues when using recent/hisotry/favourites etc etc.

but search sux!!!

regarding resolution - like u, i had jagged edges and the text not so clear.  after changing AA settings to 720p, it was more clear and less fuzzy.

Search was fixed for me (and others) about a month ago, but I did have to uninstall/reinstall AA and waze first…. works perfectly now. If you still have a problem with the latest builds of both try a reinstall.

To be fair, it was actually an issue with AA permissions for new locations/data so a workaround was to search in the waze app before hooking up to AA... or use google maps.

I have done some testing and the 720p (or 1080p) setting no longer seems to have an effect… if it ever did? Android Auto 3.4.582533 on the Nexus, 3.4.582534 on the Note 5 and Waze 4.40.0.4 on both.

All screenshots are 800x480 so it confirms the actual screen isn’t capable of 720p (1280x720) but I would have put money on the image sharpening up after enabling 720p in the past… I must be going mad :D

Well waze just released an update (4.41.0.3) so more testing required

Well at least iT looks great. Will try to use a different phone, see any difference.

I got a new phone this week so tried Waze via Android Auto.... it had the text poorly defined as reported.

I then enabled developer mode in AA and set to 720P and tried again. It is now clear for text in Waze. Not that I use Waze.

thanks.

i uninstalled and reinstalled AA last night and searching is all good now is Waze :D

speaking of AA, apparently an app has just been released, that will enable Wireless Android Auto for EVERYONE!!!  Details here .

it seems promising.

i'm going to try it out tonight if i can.

Seems mostly a waze issue depending on the resolution.

Reinstalled the OS on the phone, tried stock and custom and still the same issue with the text.

Desperately waiting for IOS 12 so I can use my iPhone with Waze, long time until september.... :(

  • 8 months later...

Just wanted to report that I tried the 720p and 1080p option from Android Auto Developer settings and it made a big improvement to the global Android Auto image quality (Maps, Phone, music apps etc.). This on the latest (as of 23 March 2019) AA version on my phone and a 2019 MIB2.5 Columbus unit. Originally I had noticed how the AA menu in particular looked fuzzy, which was weird given that the rest of the car's menus enjoy a crisp image. It was similar to when you run a screen (at least on Windows) at anything other than its native resolution. Enabling either the 720p or 1080p (the effect is the same, the screen is probably maxing out at 720 already) made the image crystal clear and further increased the premium feel of the infotainment.

Definitely a MUST do change for all AA users!
