vRS Tyre Choice

Goodyears were just an example re price. :)

PS4's are excellent.

Anyone tried the hybrid all season tyres? I've heard good things about the vredesteins, can't recall the name. I gave up buying specific winter tyres two years ago as never really needed them.

The softer the rubber the greater the grip and also wear. I wouldnt touch anything other than michelins. I had a set on my GTD golf and they lasted 10 years, i don't drive easy.

The only reason i had to change them was some crazy paving on the side wall and not tread.

I had Michelin Cross Climates on my last O3 TSI Elegance, not sure about there ultimate performance but, when pushed they were progressive in letting go, no sudden surprises.

They wear really well too & I'm not easy on tyres.

Lose the "Ying Tong Ditchfinders" before you find out why they're called that. Personally I like Barums or Toyos or websearch for "tyre tests" and take note of which brands crop up a lot.

MY local tyre man rants on about Barum tyres. He reckones for the price there nothing better in the mid budget range and they are made be Continental.

With two & a half hundred horses, I don't want mid budget tyres

I wouldn't think I'd put them on my 230 to be honest.

Midrange tyres are generally pretty good.  Premium tyres are the best but not by the same margin as the extra cost.   I had Avons for the last three months on my old VRS and they performed in the same ballpark as the Michelins they replaced, but at 2/3 of the cost. Michelins may well last longer however.

I'm something of a recent convert to midrange, I ran Michelin PS on the old VRS all the way from replacing the Contis it came with in 2010 until needing to replace all  four in June whilst waiting for the new VRS to be made.   I plumped for Avons as a midrange alternative as I knew I wouldn't be keeping the car.

I would happily put Avons on my 245 when the time comes but I don't think they do the 19s.

I'm putting Pirelli SottoZero 3's on mine this week as the winter is closing in here. It was a touch decision between those and Continentals. It will be a while before I'll be able to post any valuable feedback on them, but I certainly will. :)
