VRS eco mode.

Featured Replies

Okay so who on here uses the eco mode on the VRS?

I understand you might want to use it on some of the lesser models but on the VRS?

I tried it once, hated it. Mine stays in sport mode and nothing else.

I don’t use it at all

Nope, don't bother with it. The throttle response is terrible and it barely makes any difference to economy figures.

Never tried it. Normal for day to day flicking to manual for some lights and over taking. Sport when I feel like a blast

I believe it only works 'effectively' (relative...) on the DSGs. I think the best way to control efficiency on the manuals is with the bit at the end of your right leg :)

Otherwise, sticking it in Eco mode makes the throttle feel like a damp sponge.

With the DSG it makes the clutches disengage on the overrun. This is useful in slow-moving traffic queues because it allows for smoother movement.

I also use it in my "Individual" mode setup together with "Sport" setting on the steering, which is how I like it for long motorway slogs (where the DSG is in manual usually).

I barely makes any difference to the fuel economy.

On my DSG it changes way sooner and keeps the revs really low.  I really only use it in poor weather conditions like ice and snow, otherwise it's just painful.

Never tried it

Slightly different but does any one drive around with ESP in Sport mode or off completely? or will it chuck you into a ditch..............

Used it when we had snow, seemed to help with traction somewhat,

Otherwise rarely change modes.

In icy weather i always drive with ESP off as it will kill any momentum if your slow and going uphill

The testosterone levels are high indeed in this thread

Traction control in sport mode gives extra speed out of roundabouts! #realtalk

Really, faster than 60 mph?

Fully in control regardless of diesel spills from less sporty derv users!

I have had a loaner brand new VRS combi TDI DSG for the last few days while my superb was in at the dealer....   I used ECO mode yesterday when driving it back to the dealer for the last 10 miles....  Car was empty of fuel when i picked it up so there was no chance i was putting any more fuel than i already had in it on the return drive.... flicked it onto ECO mode when it had 20 miles to empty !!   i got there.... and the miles to empty increased to 30 miles too - winner winner...

Rest of the time i set it on individual mode with all settings on sport apart from engine sound...

Sure, in the city all the time. Soft steering, calm & soft acceleration where 50km/h is limit.

You'd have probably managed the additional miles in other modes without the eco settings. From my limited testing, the fuel economy difference seems very marginal at best. Biggest factor seems to be the road/traffic conditions and the ability to anticipate what's ahead.

I left work last night with 65 miles left in. 18 miles of A and B roads and I arrived home with 60 miles left in. No eco settings used.

How did the Octavia compare to the Superb? Curious as I could see myself moving to a Superb in the future when decent used ones come down a bit :)

& Eco can be quite good on icy / black iced roads that are untreated.

Exactly! Besides, I do not want adrenaline 24/7, smooth driving feels good from time to time.
