I agree that would be good for Skoda, but would give VAG a problem with SEAT which they market as the more sporting brand. VAG have a "brand ladder" something like this:

Bugatti - extreme sports

Lamborghini - luxury sports

Bentley - luxury

Audi - premium sports

VW - premium

SEAT - value sports

Skoda - value

Alll I see is drug dealers driving S3 and Golf Rs. I class them as **** bag cars now.

  • I hear that top of the list of police car requirements is “How does it look”.    Schools are back next week, right?

  • Only if it's diesel, all petrol VRS (220, both 230 and 245) get the twin exhaust setup.

What makes Škoda the value brand these days? Is it just a perception thing in the U.K? I’m sure I looked at the German škoda site when the FL was released for details and the difference in price between a vRS and a GTI was pretty much nothing.

When I bought mine it was cheaper, bigger and better specced than the equivalent Golf or Focus. And I was able to get 20% off list by buying online with no haggling required.

Back on topic, I don't like the shape of the outer headlights on the FL. None of the sides look as if they're parallel, which contributes to the strange mishmash of angles. If the top and bottom looked parallel it would be better.

I don’l like the facelift. From some angles it looks weird. And others Ok. I like to wash and detail the car, so looking like that it would annoy me too much. The pre fl is better, but showing It’s age. Will wait for the mk4. And if it is not petrol and awd I will go for something else. The prices for a Skoda in Norway is way off. So for a little more it can be a Golf R or similar.

The Seat brand has not been sold for quite a few years here. But atleast they offer awd. And better brakes. Would love if the Octavia could get those.

Check out the new Leon Cupra limited edition in gun metal grey . Nice

Or instead of looking like a Chav, Drug Dealer, off duty Police Officer etc

Get a nice 300 Cupra with the Cloak of Invisibility and look like a Officer in an un-marked car.

Have a car with go and little show, or 'look at me!' about it.

(  Just do not fit a personal plate. )

Leon is a lot smaller than the Octavia. I considered one until I actually tried to get into one.

How do SEATs have better brakes? Are you saying the specification is better, or that for the same specification they have better components, or what?

They have had 4-pot brakes for quite some time now and the wheels designed to clear them. AFAIK they are not (or ever have been) fitted to any production Skoda

Sometimes they offer a Brake Upgrade, at Customers expense. Performance Suspension & Brake packs. Even on an Ibiza Cupra when upgraded in 2013.

That is Seat, VW & Audi,  a shame that Skoda do not do the same.

Is that just the Leon Cupra R then or all SEAT? Would seem a waste on a 1.0 Ibiza.

Of course it is only on their performance models :wondering:, but you can't get those brakes on any production Skoda (even the one with the same engine) that is what @KjetilRos was talking about

If its the "big turbo" Cupra 290/300/310 then you can't really get the same engine in any Octavia can you?

I wasn't just talking about the Octavia, the same goes for the 280 4x4 Superb as well and that is a production Skoda.

To be fair the Golf 7R doesn't have the 4-pot brakes either, and the 4-pot brakes on the RS3 were a pain in the rear

Doesn't stop people wanting them does it? but as you say you won't get that engine in an Octavia any time soon either.

Designs will always split opinion and exterior design will always matter to some more than others. I think it is good that people like their cars and if you don't like the design you don't have to buy one.

I have never tended to like facelifts as they seem to mess with the original design thoughts just to create some sort of differentiation. When Jozef Kabaň stood up at a whiteboard and 'captured' the mk3 with a few lines, I got what he was trying to do and I still do like the simplicity. It would take a few more lines on the whiteboard to 'capture' the FL (although Kabaň is long gone now)

Personally I didn't like the facelift when I first saw it and TBH I still don't like it even after seeing it both in the metal and on the road, but then I did not like the mk2 FL either and I still think the mk1 is the best looking Octavia of them all (hatch not estate!) I don't even really like the way the vRS messes with original line although it does what it was briefed to do and make the look more aggressive (and would not have stopped me buying one if they made a petrol 4x4!)

You can't blame them for it either because change creates a differentiation between old and new and generates extra sales from those who always want the latest (along with those who actually like the change) you only have to look at Apple for that.

You are not going to stop change. When things change some things get better some things get worse, that won't change either.

Agree with this, I still think the Octavia 2 was the best looking of all so far, the 2 FL was (to me, again a subjective opinion) too fussy and I never liked it. I like the Octy 3 for it's clean, understated design, and again the FL is too fussy.  More modern yes, but weird (to me). Skoda seem to do really coherent clean sheet designs and then mess them up with the facelift. Again each to their own, if we all wanted the same thing it would be dull.

not fake on petrol cars (certainly not on my 245, i assume its same on 230), i agree sound generator though, just leave it off in custom drive mode settings

Yep the 245's have proper twin exhausts, even though the tail pipes coming out the bumper are still fake!

The standard vrs still only has the one on the near side

I have the same thought now & if you watch these police shows & follow police twitter feeds its always Audi S3 / RS3's & gold GTI / R;s which are being stolen.

Skoda Vrs sales nicely under thieving scums radar.... plus there is the added bonus of people thinking they could be unmarked cops cars :D

It is funny though isn’t it...people’s different tastes and opinions. I think the mk2 aged very quickly, and was the worst looking (front end wise) of all the Octavias.

The Mk3 is the best, and still looks good. I do like the FL, but I agree it’s a bit fussy / slapdash change for the sake of having a change.

Everyone’s different, and that’s a good thing!

Truth. I do prefer O3 FL over all other versions. Waiting for mine to arrive after a month. :)
