2011 vRS (cr tdi) - couple of questions

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

I just registered on here since I bought my Octy estate a few months ago.  It’s a 2011 Tdi manual with just over 80k on it.  Work is a 130 mile round trip so it had to be a diesel.

It’s my first Skoda experience and I have to say I’m really quite smitten - I’ve always loved the look of the mk2 vRS estates, they have a nicely resolved shape to my eyes atleast, and I just like the way they sit, so I’m well chuffed to finally have mine parked outside.  It’s not a petrol version unfortunately, but then I guess we can’t have everything! :)

Coming from an ’04 S60 D5 I’m also pleasantly surprised at the ride quality, it has a taut compliant-ness too it which I really like.  Most of the time it handles really well although the back-end does feel a bit unsure of itself particularly over mid corner bumps, a bit jumpy maybe?  It’s hard for me to describe, but it definitely doesn’t feel quite right.  Perhaps disconnected is a better word…

Do you think it is worth getting the suspension checked out, or is this a ‘feature’ of octavia estates, and if so is it curable?

Also, I’ve done around 3000 miles in it so far and although it seems to go well enough, it doesn’t have quite the pull I was expecting.  I know it’s only a 170hp diesel, but it just feels like there is a little bit missing somehow.  The service history has no evidence of the clutch and flywheel being replaced, and even though I haven’t been able to detect it slipping, I am wondering if they might be a bit worn out after 80k and whether I should just get them done?

Overall I’m really liking the vRS and plan on keeping for a few years yet but there’s these couple of issues to sort before I’ll be properly happy.  I’ve never had an issue with spending money on my cars when it’s needed, but before I go and lay out several hundred quid getting the clutch and flywheel done for no real reason, I’d really appreciate what other owners on here think about it, plus the weird back-end thing too……and anything else which might be lurking as 100k miles approaches (I had the cambelt and water pump done as soon as I’d bought it).

I’ll post some pics up at some point but it’s impossible to keep the poor thing clean in this bloody weather so that’ll have to wait…

Anyway, thanks for reading my little brain dump!  Thoughts and advice on the above gratefully received :)

Cheers,

Nick.

My 2011 vRS Petrol feels like that in some conditions in the rear suspension, mid corner bumps. Currently, I'm on 42k miles bought it on about 32k miles and it was the same.  I've had the wheel alignment looked at and it's ok.  I feel pretty confident a new set of springs and quality dampers and maybe a new ARB would settle it down a lot.

Funny you say that about power, I sort of thought the the same about 200bhp coming from a Golf Mk5 GT 170. The Octavia kind of feels like there is a bit missing. But I suppose it is a bit bigger and definitely a bit more sedate than the GT suspension / steering set up and the supercharger on the Mk5 did make it feel like torque was instant.
