DAB Aerial

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, this is my first post, I have just bought an 06 Octavia.

I am looking to fit a DAB Radio and am thinking about the aerial. Do I need to fit a completely different DAB aerial to the car and if so does anyone have any recommendations please? I have seen splitters that are able to use the existing aerial and was wondering if they would be appropriate. I found this one on eBay, any thoughts would be appreciated:

Thanks in advance for any help that you can provide.

You need to install a DAB aerial - swapping the roof aerial is preferred, though some other options are available.

However, definitely avoid the Calearo DAB aerial (ANC7677932). They are equivalent in appearance to (and I believe the same manufacturer of) the standard non-DAB aerial, however mine suffered component failure last year, less than two years after installation (definitely no water ingress) yet the response was "1 year warranty - hard luck".

Buy the VW Sharkfin instead - part number 6R0035501D, plenty brand new from Germany on ebay for a reasonable price. They are a popular modification and VW don't seem to have a 1-2 year replacement interval for car aerials, so hopefully they will last longer..!

Thanks very much for all the advice guys.

In the end I got cold feet and opted for just an AM/FM tuner version of the stereo I wanted.

I am fitting a single din Sony head unit with appropriate ISO harness and fascia converter. Is there any advice you can give me on this please? I've seen some threads on here talking about 12v diagnostic leads and aerial socket adaptors/converters, or does that not apply?

Cheers
