Dashcam

Featured Replies

I'm thinking that a mobile mount might be better for me. No wires, just use my iPhone as a dashcam.  Would not work when parked up etc, but would be fine for driving.

Anyone had luck with this?

Fingers crossed nothing happens when you're parked up and away from your vehicle!

Only one of my dashcams has a 'parked' recording option so I have to think about where I park.

Again, only one of my dashcams has GPS, not really an issue, but can be a pain when marrying up footage from both cameras and the non GPS cameras timing is out.

With the camera in the mirror, where is the best place to locate the dashcam?

I've got an A118 in my current car and have bought the A119S replacement for the Karoq.

The video quality is excellent and as its a small wedge shape it fits discretely behind the rear view mirror.

I hardwire my dashcams in with a piggyback fuse link to the fuse box.

This is mine, the Street Guardian SG9665GC v3 on my Yeti, I converted it to fit with a suction cup

I have a heated windscreen in my current Qashqai and the dashcam has been stuck on fine for over a year

My Octavia has a heated windscreen and I have been using a dashcam with suction mount for nearly a couple of years now. There have been no issues.

What is everyone's view of leaving dash cams in the car these days? Am tempted to leave it in as they are not valuable like a £1K phone.

I'd be leaving one in the car - almost all the damage I have suffered in the last 10 years was inflicted in car parks...while I was away from the car.

You plan to have it running even when the engine is off? Won't that drain your battery?

"Good" dashcams have a parking mode that uses low power and motion detection to trigger recording.

An example is here: Parking Mode

Wish I knew this existed before I got mine. Good to know for when I need a replacement. Thanks
