Alarm?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone. I have a 2005 Skoda Fabia 1.4, 100mpi hatch. The Alarm is faulty. I suspect broken wires between the drivers door pillar where it enters into the drivers door through the concertina rubber tube.

The drivers door only locks and unlocks on the key and not on the remote. When I use the key on the drivers door it locks and unlocks and also locks and unlocks all the other doors. If I use the remote it unlocks and unlocks all the doors except the drivers door. I am led to believe the car has an alarm through what I have read in the owners manual and on the web, though in all the time I have had the car I have never heard it. The car has started making what can only be described as a high pitched musical tone.

Ok. Several questions. Is my diagnosis about the wires into the drivers door being broken correct? And, is this musical tone to do with the alarm and why. Curiosity is really getting to me! Many thanks in advance.

@manchesterman - I'd say your suspicions are probably correct regarding the functionality of the key and plip.

As to the alarm, a transponder immobiliser was standard, but an alarm wasn't AFAIK.

One way to find out if the car has an alarm is to look at the bonnet latch on the front panel. If it has wiring going to it the car has an alarm, if not, it hasn't.

@Wino - OK, I understand exactly what you mean, but I think you're assuming an alarm with full perimeter detection being installed.

@KenONeill, my understanding is that factory fit alarms on Mk1 Fabias all have this bonnet switch; and those without such an alarm don't.

Do you know differently?

@Wino - Not all alarms are factory fit, so absence of the bonnet switch is not evidence of absence of an alarm is all.

Elegance & vrs models were factory fitted with alarms I think. The buzzer is located under the exhaust heat shield on ns behind axle.

Yes they have bonnet electrical switches for this system.

If it was an aftermarket system id imagine there would be some sort of obvious buzzer mounted in the engine bay somewhere
