Mullered by a vRS estate...

Featured Replies

So last week my manager had said how fast his new Octavia vRS seemed, driving a BMW 220d I wondered just how fast it could really be!? So this morning behind a vRS Estate at lights he pulled away and a couple of turns and a run up to the motorway I found out, luckily 100m behind I couldn't see him laughing at me!

Oddly enough 0-60 times are similar so maybe 4 wheel drive?

Similar 0-60 times as FWD means the vrs doesn't do that great off the mark. But surprisingly nippy once off the line.

Amazing what wonders a lack of sound insulation will do for weight reduction vs. BMWs...

Yeah off the line I stayed with him but around the corners he was gone!

The BMW has better traction, so off the line they are similar, although vRS should be quicker once rolling.

Only if petrol vRS though. I think you would have beaten a derv Octy.

276bhp Superb? B)

Give us a clue then, an Octavia  vRS 184ps TDI AWD,

or was it 220, 230, 245 TSI, Standard or remapped.

Should have said it wasn't my bosses car I was following, 67 plate, looked standard, but whatever it was has more bhp than my 190!

Correct. Love being in such a sleeper of a car!!!!

Did have a funny episode at some lights. On a dual carriageway with 3 cars in left lane and none in right on a red light. Moved into right lane and coasted to line only to have s Mondeo right up my back. As lights were red I am not sure what they thought they would achieve. Did not even notice what car was on left at the front but thought I would pull away relatively quickly to get away from the Mondeo. Lights turned green and left Mondeo behind only to hear a bark of an engine on my left and this car shoot past on the inside. Turned out it was s golf R. Not sure if it thought I was racing them but probably surprised them a bit to have  me shoot off so quickly and certainly surprised me having someone on the inside!!!!

Latest G30 530d with Xdrive does 0-62mph in 5.4sec. Superb is 5.8 sec ;)

Yeah but there's lot of videos and online posts that indicate Skoda have been conservative with the 0-62 time.  It seems 5.1-5.3 secs is more realistic, it would seem.

There's also the consideration that a lot of EA888 engines leave the factory with more power than spec.   The Cupra 280's were reported to be pushing 300bhp from the factory.

Didn't someone on here show their standard 230ps Octy vRS was actually closer to 250-260?

On our crowded public roads  a few 10ths from 0-60 is academic and for bar room bragging. Even with DSG or Autoboxes for those who struggle with clutches. He/she who arrives first is determined by the level of determination/ stupidity/disregard for oncoming traffic.

Fastest car I've ever seen was an Astra driven by a domino's pizza delivery driver... my wife's 530d is fast but it's so bloody big and heavy you can't touch the accelerator near a corner!

I went from Cupra 280 then briefly to Superb 280 4x4 and now running a Octavia 245 DSG.

By far the quickest (in a straight line) was the Superb.

No contest.

In fact it made me laugh out loud with its performance.

To be honest I really miss the superb and would have another in a heartbeat.

Only did a quick Google which suggested 6.4s so maybe an older model.

Great thread.

So we know about Skoda's now,

how about BMW details since the OP has a 220d.

So what age, miles and do you like or love it, and do you get mullered often,

or do people just not bother or even know they are in a traffic light Grand Prix?

?

What is the managers new Octavia vRS?

& the 67 vRS that did the Mullering is engine / power unknown.

Brand new 220d, so maybe I was slightly holding back... have driven 1,2,3,4 and 5 series and the 2 is the nicest to drive but if I were buying it would be a M240i!

Oh and he knew what he was doing, he was taking a racing line through corners, had more confidence in his traction than me...

Dead exciting, all at under 70 or 60 mph as well.

Well done.

I just purchased a 2014 Skoda vrs Estate in rally green three weeks ago every Audi driver and boy racer wants a race with me.

Get that every day of the week esp the young lads in thier 04-12 Audi's (easier to be insured on apparently) always happens on the dual carriageway to work,

its not fun anymore.

probably because of the color.

I encountered an older, but enthusiastically driven 03 Merc SL on a dual carriageway. He can't have been happy when the Skoda estate, with roof rack, came past him. Another one was a very smoky possibly remapped C350 CDI.

I really, really love this vRS 245. And I think they're quite well respected by most car enthusiasts.
