Koh Samui has sure changed since I was there, the road did not even go all the way round the island, you needed a trials bike to get anywhere if you were lazy and would not walk, there were probably 2 or 3 taxis plus the open back overextended pick up truck taxis with wooden benches that would not leave until 4 times as many people that it could seat were piled in, around, on top and hanging off of it.

 

Then came the airport, fast forward a decade and a pal had a mansion built there in a private secure gated community and talked about going to the local Homedepot, now you have car dealerships and I guess every other thing available in a major population centre.

 

The tiny island will have changed beyond all recognition and it would be painfull for me to return so I will stick with my memories.

 

Hope you get your aircon sorted, you sure need it if the traffic congestion is what I imagine it must be.

If you haven't been for a while, Samui will have changed a lot and mostly not for the better. 

There are some good things; we now have supermarkets, good hospitals, schools etc.... but the rapid development has eaten away the nature that made it a beautiful island.

It's like anywhere, if there is money to be made no one cares about preserving forests and beaches, pay the bribe, chop it down, build another resort.

In this climate air con is essential, unfortunately it seems my car was imported without it and then it was added here. the problem is finding what parts they used. 

Hopefully, thanks to the advice from the legends on this page, I'll get it sorted.
