Does my car have a factory fitted alarm?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I've just bought an octavia 1.6TDI  CR 2013. After looking through my insurance quote form it asks if it has an immobiliser/alarm. Now I'm no genius with cars. I can do the bare basics maintenance and drive them from A to B. How would I be able to tell if it has either of these.

I've tried sitting in the car, locking it and rocking it side to side and no alarm goes off.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Have you got sensors up on the roof part of the sunglasses box? switch on drivers b panel ? That's what my 2015 vrs has and that has the factory alarm

Try locking it with the window open and putting your arm through into the car and waving it about.

Good to know if the car came with an alarm if it actually works.

Good to know that someone had it not going off annoyingly so pulled the fuse or removed the Siren / battery instead of replacing it.

(is there a switch on the drivers door for turning off the alarm on transporters / ferries etc?)

Also for when locking animals in the car, cats. dogs, Mice / Rats / Spiders.

Bear in mind that the alarm doesn't arm immediately, once the car is locked. Think it takes 30 seconds?

Have you got the alarm button on the inside of the B pillar on the drivers side.

Try unlocking the door using the metal key ( not the plip button ) and then open the door.

If you have a alarm it will go off and you stop it by turning the ignition on.

Don't try this in the middle of the night. ;)

Thanks for the replies.

Yes, it has that alarm button on the door panel. Turns from red to orange when I press it.

It has the little red LED light that flashes on the drivers panel near the door window when I lock it too. Is this the immobiliser?

I've tried locking it with the window down and putting my arm through after a minute or so but nothing happens. Tried opening from the inside too and nothing triggers.

Also, It doesn't have key slots on the exterior handles to put the key blade in to lock/unlock manually . The locking system is operated entirely by the keys remote button.

Unless the insurance company specifically asks about an alarm and asks in isolation, you should just be able to select "manufacturers standard fit".

Just checked go compare and their question is "Is the vehicle fitted with an immobiliser and/or alarm".

My insurer simply states "Security:" again to which I stated "manufacturers standard fit" even though my VRS does have an alarm. All modern cars come with an immobiliser at least.

Hi all,

I've just managed to trigger the alarm, I locked it whilst inside and tried starting it  up.... My God, I think I managed to get the whole street doing some curtain twitching. At least I know it works!

The key blade hole is hidden underneath the cover at the end of the door handle.

If you look underneath the door handle end cap for the lever hole.

See the photos attached.

Thanks, AgFalco!

Aren't they all full of all mod cons nowadays . I'm used to getting cars half run into the ground, with wind up crank engines.. It's a bit fancy for me this one haha.

If the remote key buttons don't work then this is your get out of jail free card.

Or is it a get in the car free key card. :)

Went to a car parked in a long term car park where the key remote didn't work.

Customer new about the false handle/lock cover but could not find it.

I found it on the drivers side but for a European car, on the left hand side if you are in the car.

The manufacture only put it on this side weather it was a LHD or RHD for the whole of Europe.

A bit like a manufacture not putting the fuel filler cap on the drivers side.

Hello mate, I'm having same issue with alarm system, try to open the door or waving my arms while sitting inside and locked doesn't trigger any alarm, is there any way to activate it 🤔 please let me know otherwise I'll have to take it to the garage. Cheers
