Long term effects of disabling stop start

Featured Replies

Your error has nothing to do with StopStart its just that when the error with the throttle appears StopStart is disabled.

You will see this kind of message when most ECU errors are set - Error - StopStart Not Available or Error - CruiseControl Not Available.

Did the dealer not even check the throttle wasnt dirty/damaged etc?

The stop/start in my vRS 245 has never worked properly.  1500 km and I can count on one hand the occasions where it has activated.  I used to get the Stop/Start error on starting the vehicle however this has stopped since the dealer applied the firmware update mentioned here..

https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/445999-error-start-stop-system/

However the system largely fails to operate.  When I go into "vehicle status - Start/Stop. I get a message saying "power consumption too high" even though all accessories including air conditioning are off.

Looks like it will be another trip to the dealer.

I have no idea what they did at the garage. I asked for a copy of the job card and was refused. They said that was for their internal use and I could get an email of it when it went through warranty. My OBD11 showed I was doing 52km/h when the fault flashed up, so the stop/start wouldn’t have been trying to activate anyway.

I still do this manually since my habit is to lock the car as well on start so I press 2 buttons  at once.

You do know that there is a setting that locks the car automatically when you exceed 15mph?

One less button to press / turn shiny!

Visit to the garage 19th  June.

This is interesting that intermittent issues / same thing occurred with mine over the last few weeks, with me getting it sorted via VCDS last Friday. I have switched mine off manually as muscle-memory for the last 1.5 years of ownership (with no issues), and first received the 'Stop/Start Error' message about a week ago.

Then on the recent hot Friday afternoon I got it twice, and the engine went into limp mode (with zero boost from turbo, might I add - not sure if normal in Limp Mode or not).

Anyway, quick phone call and visit to QS Tuning, got VCDS sorted and turned out to by Turbo Actuator fault... (IS20 turbo recurring issues perhaps). Sorted it quickly, been fine ever since... Not sure why the Stop/Start Error was generated for this, however.

@Ozzy25 - let us know how the garage visit went / results :)

See my above post. Basically, no fault was present, if it happens again bring the car back.

Ah my bad - sped through the posts!

How odd they didn't provide the job card... was that at a Skoda garage?

I tend to go to VAG tuners as they 1) tend to know what they're doing more than typical Skoda garages, and 2) usually have much better customer service / are happy running through their process with customers.

Yes that was a Skoda Garage. Wasn’t impressed, but just finished 15 hour night shift so couldn’t be bothered arguing over it.

Yes, but regarding safety, when you enter the car, its the greatest chance of somebody trying to steal your car or similar..

Other than to reach emission targets its a pretty pointless function, mine is permanently off. More wear on the starter and other components is obvious.

Not to mention the oil starvation issues of the turbos leading to failures due to the start/stop system.

JohnyType2 is spot on with very little Pro's for this type of system, want to help the environment ride a bicycle

I do ride a bicycle, but the stench from parked cars leaving their engines running for no reason can be terrible (ruined my family's ice creams a few weeks ago).
