Is Kia the new Skoda?

What Car also did an in-depth comparison between the Audi Sportback S5 and the Kia Stinger GT S. Depreciation was almost exactly the same on both, with them both retaining around 50% of their original cost after 3 years.

Until seeing this, I'd expected the Kia to be significantly worse because of its non-German, non-premium image. I doubt I'm the only one making this assumption.

So they both cost £11,500 per year to run. Not exactly bargain basement motoring is it?

  • I agree on buying new list in full ( but lets face it , some just have a lot of money to burn) but with used its more marginal comparison   I also have to say, my father is certainly in that

  • Having been the proud owner of 4 Skoda's, all VRS'S, the most recent Octavia VRS 230, I bought this (New to me) Kia Stinger 3.3 a couple of weeks ago. She is Nov 2017 with 2k on the clock. Even though

  • Well just to put this thread into a bit of perspective I have an Opel Astra 1.4 turbo at the moment and I would rather have a Kia...   ANY Kia...   PS..   It's on hire for a week so at least

No, but who said it was?

Nobody buys a 3 litre, 6 cylinder, £40,000 car for bargain basement motoring. They go and buy a Dacia.

Thanks @ahenners. Hadn’t seen this. Which month was it?

Only time will tell! The way the internet has gone mad for the Stinger (well the GT S at least) is quite astonishing - just have a look on  YouTube. They are letting any and all motoring YouTubers take them for extended drives.

Kia are marketing it aggressively.

This Summer’s cricket on Sky is sponsored by Kia, with Stinger images at every opportunity. The World Cup had Kia plastered all

over it too.

March 2018, page 80. Not like the image above says this.. :D

'What Car'  / Haymarket Media Group must have Derren Brown, Mystic Meg or An Other doing predictions on the future values in 2021 or VW / Audi & KIA are the ones that will guarantee that if someone comes to them with one of these cars that will pay them a certain amount of money even if they do not buy another new car from them.

If someone selling one gets 50% of what they bought it for what are an Audi or KIA dealership or An Other going to be trying to sell these 3 year old cars for?

@ahenners a quick delve into the archives and I’m there!!

Just looking on Autotrader there is a Red 'Cat N' with 400 miles and an asking price under £30,000

The KIA Dealers are still sitting asking silly money, but i wonder how long that last for before they get a bit more desperate to shift them.

Yes, saw that red one.

There are over twenty ex-demo cars on between £30 & 35k. It’s been like that for weeks.

Prices will come down at some point. Despite the positive reviews, they are seemingly not selling quickly.

Maybe £450 road tax is putting people off.

Dacia do a 3L, 6 cyl. :o:biggrin: I take it they got their hands on a job lot from the old Renaultsport Clio V6?

Kia.  For: Not everyone will think you're an utter twunt and want to cut you up and not let you out of junctions; it demonstrates you have some level of imagination and ability to think for yourself.

Road tax is £140. The list price includes first year tax which is taken off and brings it under 40k. Hence the pricing.

I've test driven one, amazing car.

What annoys me the most is why they dont bring the Kia Optima Estate with the turbo 2 liter 245BHP T-GDI engine to the UK, that is already in the base Stinger. We only get the bad diesel - the petrol is sold in Europe and are getting great reviews

Good work!

I access digitally via Readly, saves having piles of old mags in the loft, under the stairs etc. Also has some of the other car mags; Autocar, Evo, Car, Auto Express, Top Gear etc. and plenty of other genres too. Worth checking out if you have a tablet to read on and also a bit of a car mag nut! There was recently a 3 month subscription offer for 99p :)

Dunc69,

it is over 20 advertised just on Autotrader, 31 3.3 GT-S advertised, they are selling like stale buns.

They are an amazing car i have driven 1.

Not a fantastic car though for many that might need to drive in adverse weather, they are a bit like RWD BMW's / Ultimate Driving machines.

So so.

Kia aren't the only ones to do this; BMW have a few Xdrive variants which aren't sold here but are in other parts of the EU. The M140i being one of the more obvious ones, would help steal a few Golf R, S3 sales.

Yep, 25 cars between £30 & £35k, 30 in total up to £40k.

So, people like us (non-badge-snob petrolheads) appreciate them as good cars, but seemingly those planning to spend about £35k on a fast rear-drive coupé / hatch are putting their ££ elsewhere.

Before I test drove it I thought yeah ok they put a big engine in yeah it’s going to be fast but boy was I surprised. When you step in it’s the same like Audi s5 or bmw 440i. If you’d covered the badge you’d never know. The seats are so comfy and the leather is as good as the best premiums. Everything feels luxury. When my wife sat in it she said wow these seats are good! We tried a number of cars and liked it a lot but it was the small boot that was the clincher. Although the floor space of the boot is ok it is very shallow. We need a bigger one unfortunately. Everything else. Perfect! Seriously!

If you don’t need the boot I would buy it in a flash. Plus 7 years warranty.

I haven’t test driven one, but sat in the one I posted at the start of this thread and couldn’t believe the quality inside. As you say, the seats are gorgeous. Heated and ventilated too!

The standard spec is amazing too. Everything you could want and more.

As I have said earlier, dependent on depreciation and the views of the kids (rear space-wise), it may replace the planned Superb 280 as my next car about 20 months from now.

Or, I keep the vRS for Mrs Dunc (she loves it) and find a way to find £20k or so (hopefully) for one of these. Black on cream please!

Rear space same like Octavia (approx). Seats are different shape though. Very sculpted so for three in the back it  is not.

Its a long and wide car. But obviously the flat coupe shape eats rear headroom and boot.

You should try one for sure. It is quick. Very quick!
