OV58NOH 3.6 v6 at AGB motors.

Recommended Posts

Dear all,

First time post on here.

I was was looking for a v6 superb and got this car

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201803064298475?atmobcid=soc3

inspected by the AA. Unfortunately the results were very poor. I am not posting this to name and shame the garage selling the vehicle, I hope people find this helpful, it hopefully will save others time and potential money.

I was however disappointed that the garage let me pay over £300 for an inspection when they must have known the car was not fit to test drive. I also find it interesting that the MOT which was done less than 300miles ago shows no advisories at all, considering the faults found by the AA.

If this is in the wrong place on the forum, my apologies.

Kind regards, David.

I would wonder if it was the garage selling the car who MOT'd it?  Some of the points in the report are down to the age of the vehicle (its now 10 years old!)

At least you saved yourself £5500 :)  You may have ended up further out of pocket had you bought the car!

The report does not appear to indicate much more than an average car enthusiast would pick up on. The AA man states that he would not test drive the car due to brake fluid and EML illumination yet in section 2.15 he states that the brake fluid is OK (Green). Doesn't this contradict each other?

That's one I sort of hovered over, except I was trying to find the rocking horse poo ones in estate form :)

The engine and general overalls should be ok in this sort of car. Not like the 3.6's are ragged, becuause the superb was/is such a sleeper.

Shame it's gone, prob not much to sort and a good stick to bash the price down, if you have the patience to do so and undertake remedials.

Sounds a bit like an ex Police spec car (nowt wrong with that) but has mileage been played with? Worn carpets etc.? Only 50,000 miles.....just sayin'.....

This  is either still for sale or for sale again.

The link to the AA report is broken, it's a shame because I would be interested to read it.

£6k for a low mileage example looks good if all is as seems.

You'd think they'd have replaced the blown rear light bulb before posting the pictures with the blown-bulb warning light showing on the dash.

Unfortunately for me I bought this car Wednesday 13th Feb just gone! After 5 mins of driving engine management light came on. Went back to dealer had a look at the code, cleared it and they said I could get someone local to me fix and they will repair or I can be offered a refund. I said I'll drive home see how it is. That night the same error code and a additional 2 appeared. At this point even if the car was repaired I still wouldn't be comfortable with it. Have asked for a refund from dealer yesterday and had the car dropped off with them and as you would expect they are being awkward. I have spoken with trading standards and they have said the fact the car is even producing an error means it's not of satisfactory quality and I'm legally entitled to a refund! I'm very glad that I can across this post which proves my point the car has serious issues as well as the errors it's producing!

Unfortunately the link doesn’t even work for me (the original purchaser of the inspection) I guess the AA only leave them live for 6 months or something. I’m in contact with the new buyer superb36v6 who I will try and get a copy of the report to if I can find it.

Interesting that the car car appears to be for sale from a different company to the one it was at when I was interested in it. Have they recently changed their name to avoid negative reviews or did the original garage move the car onto another garage as they couldn’t shift it?

Commiserations to superb36v6.

Thanks iwantdsg for your personal message.

They are 2 physically separate garages. The errors that come up were P0014 and P0011 relating to  Cam shaft position A and B. And strangely enough on the air filter box to the right of the engine the letters A and B were written on it. My guess to relate to the engine on which side the A/B CAMS are. Highly suspicious. And upon further investigation does appear to be an ex police car which I was also not informed of. Picture is from Flickr who takes pictures of emergency vehicles

Good investigative work.

Hopefully she just needs some TLC but I guess if it was an easy or cheap repair it would have been done by now.

As alluded to in this related thread, if it was a simple case of replacing the camshaft sensor it would have been done, the other option (camshaft mechanical timing) is potentially a much bigger headache and a possible indication of something more sinister.

Yep would have been done by now! And the fact it's been trying to be sold since last may is not good. Spoke with some VW specialists and as soon as I mentioned the A/B on the filter alarm bells started to ring

The pure fact the car has an engine management light throwing various errors on day of purchase trading standards have said I am legally allowed to reject the vehicle and get a refund.

Have also asked police department for info on the vehicle. Regardless whether it's clean or not. The car has faults!

2 minutes ago, Towner said:

So, this vehicle is up for sale again, I had planned on viewing it tomorrow.

As the camkit has been done, would you touch it with the proverbial barge pole?

No clue if the camkit was actually replaced.

Here's a list of things I found wrong with that car:

1) Engine warning light coming up multiple times (due to the camkit not sure if they have actually fixed it)

2) Car is an ex police vehicle = thrashed! which they failed to state on their ad or inform me of.

3) drivers wheel arch cover is missing

4) look under the drivers wheel arch and youll see the drivers headlight is held in place by a cable tie

5) Bonnet latch isn't working properly doesn't close with ease.

6) something not quite right with the auto folding mirrors (drivers one would fold in but not out)

7) car only came with one key

8) some scratches and dings which you can't see in the pics but you'd expect that for the age of the car.

9) states it just had an RAC inspection. I checked with the RAC and this is false.

Based on my experience with the dealer I would avoid them at all costs. They had my car and money for a week and a half before refunding me. What they couldn't grasp was the simple fact I had photos of the engine management light and fault codes was more than enough to be legally entitled to a refund (spoke to trading standards numerous times)

I also noticed (after getting my money back) that majority of Facebook reviews(probably Google too) are just friends with the owner on Facebook

Cheers for the prompt reply, saved me time and money!! I grew concerned after finding the video on youtube, but a different dealer only 9 months ago. It is now with a dealer in Epping.

Not going to lie, very disappointed as after three months of choosing which car, i had set my heart on this one.

Thank you again for your quick and honest replies.
