Is there a way to watch video on an Amundsen ?

Not that I have found; that's why I went for the Columbus - most of my TV watching is done in car parks waiting for SWMBO. Only intellectual stuff of course Tipping Point, The Chase, 100K Drop, Eggheads .................. the list goes on.

A question for those more knowledgeable than I...

I'm down here in New Zealand, and there isn't/hasn't been a map update for us since at least 2014.

Skoda NZ don't want to know about it and point you in the direction of a 3rd party that can allegedly supply updated maps for $1200.

Is there anything anywhere, hidden away in the update portal's archives that would help me?

I’ve spoken to Skoda NZ on this issue, there are updates available for us, If your car is pre 2016 you are supposed to purchase a MapCare key (code) from the dealership (one off purchase). The dealer will update when car is serviced etc, if your car is 2016 and beyond the updates are provided free of charge. I expressed my disappointment about that scenario and Skoda NZ spoke to my local dealership who have come to the party and are providing me with the MapCare update free of charge. So the car is in next week for it’s update. :)

Hi, I tried to update maps on my Columbus. I downloaded the data from Skoda update portal, format SD card (32GB) to FAT32, copy the data on SD card and plug it in the slot. But unfortunately it freeze on 95% and it writes "Software error". I tried to download data and format SD card again, but nothing change. Anyone can help please?

Thanks Peter

Try another premium SD card as Sandisk or Samsung.

You cannot use any other card other than the official Skoda one, as it has a protected sector to prevent unauthorised copying.

I have a 2014 superb. Will this work on that car? It has the Columbus system.

One retailer here in Sweden said that it's updated from a DVD, at the cost of 2300 sek, another retailer said from a card and cost was 4000 Sek.

Hei! I have a 2009 superb and have no luck fineding update for my Columbus.  Anyone here that could help?

I've very painfully (repeated freezing of the download) downloaded the data file offered by the web portal, and after a very slow zip expansion now have a folder called HIGH12_P177_EU_201920. This contains a text file and two folders, Mib 1 and Mib 2. The portal instructions now tell me to:

  1. Open the first file in the folder with the downloaded data and extract into the SD card.

I find this meaningless. Can anyone tell me what I should do?

cheers

These updates are for the newer MIB style Columbus rather than the RNS-510 style fitting in your Superb.

You'll need a map update DVD, the latest is V16. A dealer will charge loads but there are plenty of other sources available if you google...

My Superb is a 2012 L&K, owned from manager's demonstrator. Maps were out of date at delivery (as they always are year or two behind roads /limits etc.). The car has a DVD/SD card slot but did not come with a DVD or SD card with maps. Can I use the downloads listed here to update my system or is it risky?

Update on my progress in updating the maps in my Kodiaq Columbus satnav. Some notes of particular interest to users of Mac computers.

Having laboriously downloaded the big zip file from the Skoda update portal, and having been kindly supplied with instructions by Kenny R, I formatted a spare 32GB SD card I had lying around; although operating on a Mac, I chose MS-DOS FAT format. I copied to card this the small text file and two large folders contained in the big zip file. On sticking this in an infotainment SD slot, the system immediately recognised that it had access to update files. However, when I ran the update process the system failed to recognise the files.

I then remembered that Macs save to non-Mac media by saving each file as two 'forks', and the minor fork needs to be cleaned up if the media are to be used in non-Mac devices. Passed the SD card through CleanMyDrive2, and the files were then recognised by the system. Ran the update process for five minutes, achieved about one third of the update, turned everything off, turned everything on again. Update process resumed. I confidently expect the update to complete when I do a few miles in the car tomorrow.

On this link:

http://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/?appVIN=&appLanguage=en-GB

you just have to enter your VIN, and direct download any updates for your Columbus. Mine is Octavia 2015. It worked for me. Radio logos and Map update 2020. It take, in my case, ~5hr to download map package (25Gb) from Skoda, and cca half an hour to upload them on car.
