Digital Dash

Featured Replies

Hi all, new to the forum.

I am about to swap my BMW 5 series touring (end of pcp) over to a Skoda Superb Estate L&K.

I just heard that the new 68 plate model from Sep 1st is going to get an option for a digital dash a la the Passat... like this one:

Passat Digital Dash

Anyone else heard this?  This would make the car pretty much perfect for me.

If this is true - I am going to wait till I can spec the option in about a month...

Actually here it is... hasn't been available for UK but will be now it seems...

Call me old fashioned but I prefer the traditional dash.

(x)man, are you old fashioned!

Great can't wait, will be able yo have a proper digital speedo and get rid of the rev counter and then have some useful info on the screen.

Well, I do like traditional dials too, but prefer the new digital options, especially for sat nav full screen - leaves the central screen free for other functions.  Personal choice I guess.

I heard the option will be £450 in the UK.

Call me old fashioned, but I will not pay £450 for what should be a requirement.

At this early stage, is it possible to tell if the digital dash could be retrofitted to MY18 Superb?

Someone has done it to a Mk3 Pre Facelift Octavia. So based on that, non scientific example, yes it probably is. If you can be bothered.

Having come to the Superb from a car with digital dials and gauges, it was so nice to have real dials again in the Superb (and I really like the L&K white edges). My mate’s Passat with digital dash just seems so “flat” in comparison. I find the 9” touchscreen and Maxidot combination fine for everything else.

Remember CDs? People said analogue [vinyl] was dead... B)

I've got a country & western MP3 CD permanently loaded in my Sportline's CD player. It tracks quite well over bumpy roads, too. Which is very country.

I heard it just cycles through a few views and is more like the golf than the polo version.

Either way, £450... when it’s standard dials will be a grand :)

i heard the same too.

there are two version of the digital display:-

1. Active Info Display - very limited flexibility with views.  very few combos allowed on the dash.  and furhter compromised by the type of infotainment fitted to the car.

2. Active Info Display II - far, far better. It has much more flexibility and functionality.

the Polo has the second one, while the Golf comes with the first version.

the Passat and Arteon also get the same version as that found in the Golf.

it will interesting to see which one the Superb will get.

i think the Karoq gets the same as the Polo version :)

not sure about the Octavia.

would b nice if the Superb got the Polo version of the digital dash.

Superb and Octavia can’t display maps on infotainment on and the display with Amundsen....

so so I would imagine the golf.

also view button cycles through a number of views.

It's one of those things you tell everybody you have and how wonderful it is being able to do this and that.....

I don't suppose anyone on here constantly cycles through all the options you have now? Once you have paid your £450 You will play with it for a couple of days then probably leave it set to what you like. All cars will have them soon as they are probably cheaper to mass produce.

Although I would like one....but that's because I like stuff that I can mess about with for no reason.

The reason I might wait for this to be available is more for the higher resolution of the dash screen.  Just looks better than the current dated look.  I must admit, I like the analogue dials... would have been good to place a higher res screen between analogue dials - covering dial to dial.  Still, I do agree that after a fairly short while I probably wouldn't care !:)

I just hope these dashes finally have some sort of tempered glass, no more plastic crappy covers that get scratched by dust...

Don't get your hopes up too high:D Skoda LOVES high gloss plastics that scratch when you look them with a bit meaner look in your eyes.

I quite like the digital dial colours, but wouldn't it be nice to have the option of the audi digital display where a map of where you are going could be displayed behind the dials on wide screen? I guess Skoda are not allowed to have the best toys that audi have?

See image... does display behind the dials and also with minimized information in the corners for a widescreen map...though not mini dials as in the Audi.

So as your picture from the MY19 brochure....

It is the golf style one.

Indeed.... No one is more careful cleaning stuff than me but my plastic cover is scratched to death. Luckily you only notice occasionally but it's a crap choice of material ...

Thanks Jaycar I will definitely run with that on my next order. If you choose the wide screen how do you known the speed you are doing?

Looks like the speed shows in the bottom right hand corner of the widescreen... gear on the left.

Just some other specs for the model update which I believe is going to be week 31 production.

2 litre 280hp petrol 4x4 is being replaced with 272hp.

1.5tsi engine instead of 1.4

Drive mode will now alter ambient lighting.

Don't get this one... the phone button on the multifunction steering wheel is going - to be replaced by a 'view' button???

Google Earth will no longer be available.

Smart Light Assist and Two USB's will now be standard on the L&K

The Sportline PLus  is getting new alloys - all black.
