Sportline window trim issue

I sent this photo to Marshall Skoda, Croydon. They've booked me in for Monday morning, so not too bad a wait time. I offered to stick it down with crazy glue. They said, no, they'll probably replace the whole trim. I'll let you know how it goes...

Loads of chrome window trim threads. Is this the first black one?

Not seen anything like this on either of mine.  I thought it was 'exclusive' to the chrome trim.

Hope you get it sorted.

I think mine (sportline) is about to peel off too. I would just glue it back on personally rather than let some skoda chimp loose on it.

On Saturday the car started the same fault as the OP but on the n/s.  After 3 dealer "repairs" to the o/s chrome strip I thought a DIY repair was in order.  The strip is easily removed - bottom edge first. Easily straightened by hand (assume the black trim is the same metal), surprised how much "bend/distortion" - well past the point where the strip left the seal.  Replaced the trim as far back as possible on the rear door starting from the rear edge of the door.  Hook the strip onto the top "rib" of the seal and after about 6" in place start pressing in on the bottom edge whilst pressing in and down on the top edge and work  forward ensuring the "pushed in" bottom edge is kept well behind the hooked on top edge.  I could see no visible change at the front /back door join but it hasn't occurred since.

One to look out for, has the heat caused it? Or has it caught when cleaning etc?

Hopefully straight through claim for you.

I hadn't thought about the heat! No obvious reason for it to start happening now. And, yes, hopefully straight forward warranty repair. Especially with the "64E3" history on this forum.

The tolerances between the front and rear trim are quite tight... obviously over time too tight, the replacement will be better as there is a much bigger gap.

So am I understanding correctly that this happens because tips of front and rear trim toutch together?

Had this happen to me too. Style 2016. Been to dealer 2 times, the third time they just replaced the whole strip with a new one. Hope it stays fixed.

for reference, here is the door trim from an MY17 model, which doesn't suffer from the dreaded trim issue.

MY16 is notorious for the door trim issue.

Just an update. I took the Sportline in Monday morning (Marshall Škoda, Croydon). I was greeting by an unnaturally cheerful young lady in the service department and we filled out paperwork. Then we walked to the car. She took an iPad tablet 360° video of the car. I showed her the problem. She said she'd call when it was fixed.

Tuesday, 11:45 I got the call. I was cheerfully greeted by the receptionist and the service department head, sat until my car was pulled around front, was handed my key and she said, "All done". Itemised workshop sheet will be sent by email, if you like. All covered by warranty. I opened and shut the door a couple times, you could see the gap was proper, so they didn't just glue it in place but shifted the whole trim. Perfect.

Easy, peasy.

A small gripe: I always wash the car before a service. I used to work in a garage and a clean car is much nicer to work on than a dirty car. They returned the car looking like it had been catching the spray of other cars being washed. They had to run the front and rear wipers to clear the glass. Oh, well. It will give me something to do tomorrow.

To be fair to the dealer, turns out they did wash my car. I only worked this out when I washed it Wednesday morning and noticed that the tyres had been gelled. The dealer is on the A23 and the layer of dust must have settled over night.

The reason for this post is:

They sent my invoice in the post. It says "FOC. Warranty repair. O/s/r door trim lifting – confirmed fault found TPI  and carried out repairs as reported. Tested all OK"

My question is, what is TPI?

Thanks.

TPI is same as PITA but in shorter:biggrin:

For VW TPI stands for Technical Product Information and I am pretty sure it's the same with Skoda.

Hi CBas, did you have any luck finding a new part or part number?

I've had the same issue and cant seem to find a replacement anywhere.

Thanks

Unfortunately not, I've been able to find the chrome type ones. I've asked my local garage (Heritage Skoda in Gloucester, they're useless and have actually completely put me off purchasing another Skoda) multiple times and had no response. I'm going to reach out to a couple of others and see if I can get a response or quote to get it fixed. Logically there must be a part number somewhere, and it must be a 30s job to sort it.
