After 9 months finally got this view for my Superb 2015
1. Steering wheel

2. MIB 2 -> 2.5 convertion

3. Gateway 5Q0 -> 3Q0907530AC

4. And now I've installed AID

hello zacko

did you change only the MIB display or also the MIB glovebox unit ?

did you have to use 3V0920790 or 3V0920790A only virtual cockpit ?

(so no cheaper cockpits like 3V0920790G or 3V0920790H can be used on these pre-FL cars?)

thanks

I changed only display(3V09119606E/D), I had MIB2 High and converted it to MIB2.5 High, you can find more details here.

I didn't let it longer than previous times in the 'barrel' though!... And no double or triple wood finish either... 😁

Gandalf got new brake pads & rotors fitted today....after 90k kms, the factory original brakes, front specifically, were getting low.  Rears still had another 5.5mm left.

Decided to change all 4 corners for DBA Rotors and Pads.

Front - DBA2806S slotted rotors + DB2384SP Performance pads.

Rear - DBA2837E plain rotors + DB2384SS pads.

I took advantage of the slightly cloudy weather this morning to wash, clay, polish and wax it.

My cheapo Halfords polisher decided to almost smash itself to pieces just as I'd started polishing the bonnet so I had to do the rest of the polishing plus the wax by hand.  Of course, my 'fancy' NXT wax had separated so I had to throw that away and dig out a very old bottle of Turtle Wax. It did the job but I forgot how hard it was to buff off.

It now feels like someone is trying to twist my right shoulder off 😧

Feel for you, mate…. The TW Hybrid Ceramic Wax products are excellent and after buffing, your shoulder will still feel OK too if your new DA runs outta battery!

Superb is a big car, especially the estate. I use Soft 99 fusso wax twice an year to feel that shoulder pain less often :D  It really lasts several months, but not 12 as they claim.

Despite buying a DA I LIKE to polish by hand but I also suffer from the 'car looks nice' right shoulder! Why, why, why do I alway only use my right hand to polish the car? I try to use both hands but within a few minutes realise that the left is redundant again.

That’s what I bought after you mentioned it, very good product.

Now and again I give my car a snow foam jobby and beads again nicely

Lasted about 6 months then reapplied which is good enough for me

A few little finesses that made me happy...

2017 Greenline Combi (160k - 2nd keeper) Moonstone with black wheels and badges:

▪︎LED rear indicators

▪︎Dynamic LED mirror indicators (nasty job)

▪︎6k white reversing LEDs

▪︎LED white rear plate lights

▪︎LED white interior tail lights

▪︎set of official Superb mats

A few things ready and soon to happen

- The leather gearstick covers came in but one of the clips was warped, so another pair has been sent and so I'll have one spare (with a slightly warped clip).

- Stop Start module ready

- New 56mm wheel centre caps

- Replacing the filler flap hinge along with new labels (after PDR on filler panel after a botched warranty replacement)

- Trying to get a service booked through Skoda dealership is pretty shocking, they've sent reminders and called, I even called up the dealerbut they haven't been able to get back to me regarding my service, cost and availability. I'm really contemplating if the Digital Service book is still required now that my vehicle is officially out of warranty or if there are any other better garages that won't damage/botch or overcharge and will have access to the digital service book.

- Then getting the car repaired as someone scraped it. 😡

Just had the dreaded call from the garage with the extra "advisories".

So, based on the Indi garage & Skoda records for the car:-

Spark plugs - I swerved on these last year so I guess they need changing a year on.

Haldex oil, oil filter & pump clean out - not really negotiable so yes.

Air Con refresh - hardly used it with the mileage I do & the summer we've been having but Ok.

So all in, & including engine Oil & normal service items, errrr £600!!

That's put a big hole in this months pension😒

I'm starting to wonder if we can exist with only one car🤔

We do now, compared insurance, tax, maintenance etc etc to cost of a few taxis,  buses and occasional train and it was a no brainer compared to running a second car that was doing less than 4k miles a year - but it is the Superb estate that is the one car !

It depends on your location for access to public transport or taxis….

Always run the a/c!

Me and my wife have our own cars which we never use really, her car is the run around and mine only used for holidays or seeing the in laws because we take the doggo.

If you do most of repairs-maintenance yourself it’s still good to have 2 cars because you can have your independence

Reminds me I need to sort all the suspension out on wife’s fiat 500 😭

I was told years ago by an old mechanic friend of the family to run the a/c at least once a week.

Having had a few PHEV's as a company car and very carefully checked mpgs over the years,  it does cost a little but not as much as you'd think.

Initially with the Outlander, I didn't use the heater or a/c but after a few winter months of coat wearing,  I gave up and used the creature comforts!!

I do run the A/C / Climate regularly for demisting & to keep the system seals from drying out (ex AC industry engineer). I just don't use the A/C for prolonged periods due to the low annual mileage & the rubbish summer temps we've been experiencing of late. You don't need mechanical A/C running when it's only 17c outside!

I've long since given up doing anything on our cars that's more than just washer fluid top ups, tyre rotation & a few other minor tasks. There was a time when I spent all my spare time under cars doing engine swaps, repairs, body modifications & the like. I liked doing it but it was mainly because I couldn't afford to pay others to do it for me.

Then I got company cars so didn't have to worry about anything other than putting fuel in them. Now we own & run our own cars, I'm getting too old to be getting under cars & can afford to have a local garage maintain them for us - just.

I agree on the independence thing but it's also the convenience of being able to jump in a car whenever I need to do something on a whim & to get from A to B without having to do D-Day type logistic planning 3 days in advance.

Today's a prime example. My car's in the garage & my wife has gone out with a friend on a whim so I'm stuck at home until she gets back & takes me to pick my car up later today. I haven't used a bus or a overland train since I can't remember when & I avoid them like the plague.

That said if my wife & I go anywhere together locally, or further afield on a 1 day return trip, we nearly always takes her EV cos it's so much cheaper to run & we haven't used a public charger since we got it over a year ago. My car gets used for longer journeys, holidays or if we need to haul something that's too large for her car. The other snag is that while I have no problem driving my wife's car she doesn't like driving mine because it's too big for her!!

I'm still not sure if we / I am ready to drop down to a single car yet. I guess all the while we can afford to run 2 cars we won't change but I'm sure there will come a time when we will have to consider it.

We're in the same position.  Albeit SWMBOs chariot is a small petrol SUV.

Cost wise the Superb isn't much different to the Mokka, although I do tend to drive them differently. The Superb is a relaxing 70 mph whereas the 1.2 Turbo Mokka needs a bit of poking.  Having said that,  with the sports button pressed it's fun, but for short journeys!

One day we'll be sensible and reduce to a one car household but until that day....

@Colin170CR I agree about the car repairs aspect, I always used to do my own repairs then I got a company car, and sold my car and for over 40 years I never needed to lift a finger to get anything done to the cars, it was all done under contract by the leasing companies, now I'm retired and running my own car again, but too old to get involved in getting under the bonnet apart from checking the fluids, everything else goes to the garage.

As to using buses etc, even though I have a free local bus pass, I have used that about 3 to 4 times in the 6 years because as you said, you need to plan everything out well in advance, and we can no longer hop on a bus and go from one side of the city to the other, as all buses now are called shuttles and go from various points around the area into the centre and back again, meaning that you now have to catch at least 2 to do what I used to be able to do with a single bus. Then you have to get from point A to point B in the centre in order to catch the other bus, and this is called progress???

I tend to take my car to one of 2 garages for repairs and that always involves 2 buses at the minimum and because of the need to catch the second bus, it means that a trip by car of 5 to 10 minutes to reach either garage, now takes anything from 50 minutes to 90 minutes and waiting around in all kinds of weather getting frozen stiff in winter.

And then to think that they want to get us all out of our cars and to walk, cycle or use buses or even trains if going further afield is just stupid in my view.

Yep. Very similar. I think our local busses are OK but we are semi rural so all routes lead to the local city where a change is needed to go anywhere else. Also, most busses go round all the houses to get anywhere, so much so I could probably walk it quicker, if my hips could hold out for longer than 400yds!!

Two garages & one tyre place for me. Local VAG specialist for servicing & Kwik Fit for MOT's & the odd battery which is within walking distance - even for me! Wouldn't trust them for servicing but for MOT's they are fine & they know not to try & upsell me any of their other services. Local tyre place is good & can fit you in most days without a booking & their prices are OK.

My wife's car is still under warranty so goes to the local Hyundai dealer until 2027. TBF servicing at the Hyundai dealer has been fairly cheap so far. £50 1st service & £230 for the last one. No oil, spark plugs etc needed & even the brakes last forever with regen. Best of all to fill the 64kWh battery overnight from empty at home only costs about £5 which is good for 300 miles in summer.

Strange that you should have to pay £230 for the last service on SWMBO's electric Hyundai, as there are many EV owners here who claim that EV's don't require services, something which I always took it as read that, there would be things that they would always want to be inspecting at regular intervals like electrical connections, bearings in the motor, transmission transfer boxes, battery inspection to avoid and battery fires/problems etc and running diagnostics on all the control parts of the car which is far more complex than for an ICE.

I’ve never turned the 280’s off, nor the MKII nor the MKI before that… and not the Octavia before that!

I just checked, the last service on my wife's EV was actually £130 & included a new rear wiper, body check (required for corrosion guarantee compliance), a pollen filter, update for sat nav (free) & a couple of other small items that I can't remember. Also a complimentary wash & vacuum was included which you generally don't get at independent garages. The £230 service was for my car last year. Basically an oil change & a few other bits.

EV servicing is generally cheaper than ICE cars because there are far less consumable items.

I'm not sure who would think or suggest EV's don't need servicing. They have a service book with mileage / yearly intervals just like any other car.  So far our experience with an EV (apart from a problem with the charging flap that was fixed under warranty) has been pretty good. Perfect as a local runabout 2nd car. However, the key to low EV ownership cost (apart from not buying new) is being able to charge it from home on a low overnight tariff. Without that we would have stuck with the petrol car we had previously.
