Couldn’t tell you I’m afraid as my parking sensors have never worked, the module is knackered and it hasn’t crept high enough up the fix list yet :D

ah well i guess you still have that to find out.  i read 0252 improved stability for AA and the parking pilot issues.

  • Yes, that’s a MIB1 Bolero so you’ll need a radio unit and screen from whichever MIB2 you want to upgrade to (I chose Amundsen with 8 inch Columbus screen and this is getting popular as it’s much cheap

  • 5E0035864A is the part number for a MIB1 Amundsen. You have bought a Columbus screen 5E0919606. These are not compatible components. The screen is just a screen, the MIB1 Amundsen runs 240x400 resolut

screen arrived and im really impressed, looks so much better than the 5" and no marks at all Im booked din for CP removal £50 notes.

@SashaGrace does anything work if you install without CP removed? i don't fancy the two hour commute with no radio 4 :tongueout:.

Screen looks great! From memory nothing at all works without CP removal but I put the old radio in and used the new screen and it split it up into 4 tiny screens but all the functions worked. Not sure the same is true with the FL screens though.

So I think I have a Balero in my RS MY15 since it doesnt have nav and the headunit has CD and 1 sd-card slot.
Is it impossible for me to upgrade to a unit with sat nav and bigger screen? :(

Yes, that’s a MIB1 Bolero so you’ll need a radio unit and screen from whichever MIB2 you want to upgrade to (I chose Amundsen with 8 inch Columbus screen and this is getting popular as it’s much cheaper than a Columbus and it still runs SmartLink, or you can use 8 inch Amundsen FL screen) and a USB plug and then the CP removal on the radio followed by coding to get it all working. The coding can’t be done by Skoda or with VCDS, it has to go to someone who knows what they are doing. Most of us here who have done this swap have used member Pab567 to do this as he is a genius :)

Thanks! So a  head unit and a screen. Do I need to do something else to get navigation going? Like changing the fin antenna? :/ And finally what does MIB1 and 2 mean and what types of screens are there? :)
Im mainly after navigation and still want to use a touch screen

Yes sorry you’ll need a GPS antenna, I used a FAKRA connection one from eBay and it lives behind the dashboard. I didn’t bother retrofitting an OEM one. MIB is a German initialism for Media and Infotainment system or something like that :) Screen wise the MIB2 Amundsen used a 6.5 inch screen and the MIB2 Columbus used an 8 inch screen but the MIB2 Amundsen can run an 8 inch screen plug and play as they all have 800x480 resolution. You can also use the MIB2.5 Amundsen 8 inch all glass screen from the FL cars, also plug and play with MIB2 Amundsen.

Thanks once again. It seems to be kinda difficult to find decent priced ones on ebay. I'll just give it a few weeks and maybe something good shows up :)

so i did a quick trial fit so see what would work and with CP active there is nothing working, no sound output, the satnav deos work though. The new FL screen doesnt work with the bolero MIB1 you just get a blank screen but you do get sound.

here's the back of the FL amundsen (blue connector) the bolero is the white connector. You have to shave down the bolero connector for the FL screen otherwise they dont fit. this works fine when connected to the MIB2 headunit.

white connector doesn't fit without shaving down

I'm curious as to what is required for CP removal? is it just changing the ECU with VCDS?

No, it can't be done with VCDS - it has to be done with ODIS (or similar) that talks back to the Skoda/VAG servers.

How easy was it to remove the screen?

four euro stereo keys and pull, takes 10 secs. the two connectors on the back just unclip

The screen is plug and play on MIB2 units as they all run 480x800 resolution, but the headunit is a bit more complex. The connections are plug and play but there will be component protection and coding to do. Bolero’s do not have nav so it’ll be an Amundsen unless it already has a Columbus. If it’s a MIB1 Amundsen and you can’t be doing with the small screen then a Columbus would be a good way to go or as I have done, a MIB2 Amundsen. If it has a MIB2 Amudsen I would leave as is unless you really want the CD player back as the 8 inch screen is plug and play so you could plug the Columbus screen into the Amundsen and it’ll work with no coding required. I have an Amundsen with a Columbus screen and it’s great :D

So if I buy either the

PFL Columbus - 5E0919606M

Or

FL Amundsen - 5E0909605M

It’s a straight swap so does that mean I don’t need to have CP removal then,

AU$43.20???? That’s bonkers cheap, but loads and re sell, you’ll make a mint at that price :) That’s about £23.50 at today’s exchange rate. Sounds a little too cheap IMO.

thinking the decimal is in the wrong place? id buy it at that price and pay the shipping from OZ if they are that cheap.
