Picked up this yesterday as I’ve been dying to build another Fabia 1.8t after I stupidly sold my fantasy green one a couple of years back, plans are to run this round over winter getting all the little engine bits done and tidied up ready for transplant into another Fabia in the new year. This way I can wait for the perfect Fabia to come up.

specs are at the minute

Green induction kit

Piper 2.5” cat back one silencer

powerflex console bushes

st lowered shocks and springs 30mm,

had a new starter motor/battery and alternator in the last year and very low mileage at 66k Cambelt done at 55k

excuse the chavness at the minute as it’s how it came lol

First port of call was sort a couple of noises from suspension, o/f droplink was knackered and found a rear disc backing plate was about to fall off so pulled it off. Changed droplink yesterday, all good no more untoward noises. Handles really well with the ST suspension kit.

next jobs are do the usual deletes to tidy up the engine bay, and get rid of the horrid wheels and headlights. Then drop sump and do pickup pipe, but will probably wait till next month as I want to fit a baffled sump at same time :)

Managed to get a bootlid, headlights and a standard gear knob to get rid of the hideous momo thing all from my local scrappy :), should have a go fitting stuff at weekend if weather gets better. Picking up some alloys sat, and she should be looking fully dechaved. Fitted the knob at least

Another nice little project Trevor.

Just one question if I may. Why do you always rip the aircon out?

I just like less things to go wrong, free weight loss, more room around the engine, I never use it anyway and it wasn’t working. Quite a list :)

Wheels have been dropped off for refurb, should pick them up in a week or so as I’m on holiday.

New exhaust tips from piper have arrived, fitted them quickly but I need to trim a inch or so off the pipe so I can get it to sit flush, job for another day. I hate it sticking out of the bumper. Still better then the fart cannon though Lol

  • 3 weeks later...

Service today sump dropped and pickup pipe changed, found what looked to be remains of a helicoil insert stuck in the old pickup, which is strange as it has a newish sump on it and that hadn’t been helicoiled, I wonder if the old one had been helicoiled at some point. Pickup itself was surprisingly clear.

Hope you don't mind me asking but what's the score with removing the n249 valve?

I've just bought a beetle 1.8t and it's suffering with turbo chatter. Fault scanner says that the dump valve isn't working but I'm thinking of bypassing the n249 valve anyway so it's probably a good place to start.

Thanks.
