DTUK tuning box or not

Yea they don’t quote figures and the maps are genuinely custom. Tweaked the map 3 -4 times before he was happy and let me go. Got there at half 12 and left around 4 ish. Dpf wasn’t exactly clear either so they did a forced regen o. That before they did any mapping

This is exactly what smaller tuners usually will advertise as an advantage by going with them over the big names: the "custom" map or actually the tweaking of the map. However, this is more for the tuner to fine-tune his map and feel ok with it rather than to "get the max out of the car" as most owners would like to believe. Cars are rolling out of the factory with incredibly small tolerances and variations these days and no decent tuner would max out something as basic as a stage 1 or 2 with minimum upgraded peripherals. Proper custom mapping only makes sense on bespoke setups above stage 2 or when running lots of special peripherals (water meth injection, hybrid turbos etc) and several parameters of the map can be adapted to profit from precisely those upgraded peripherals.

APR or REVO on the other hand don't need to go through this tweaking as their extended clientele has allowed them to do that already, on hundreds of cars, during their development phase so they've settled on the ideal values.

Let it be clear, I am not implying anything negative for Bigfish here, and I don't have a doubt they are an excellent company. Neither do I advise anyone to go with one or the other tuner (this should be the result of each one's investigation and not simply take the word of anyone for it). Just a general comment that "custom" tuning, at this level and on these engines is not what most people would think it is. And it's definitely not something worth of paying a premium over - wherever that applies (not in Esseesse's case so that's great).

Yep no premium charged for tweaking and getting it right..and it was rather interesting seeing the torque flatline when it hit the dsg torque limiter and then see it go up once the limiters in the box has been adjusted to suit the engine map. Important adjustment I reckon if you have dsg

Sounds like good stuff

The DSG map is kind of a necessity if you want to be getting all the extra hp you're paying for in the remap. That and to avoid occasional clutch slipping which can occur even with stage 1 torque levels on the 190 Diesel and even more on the 280 TSI.

Yea absolutely. Torque limiters up and clamping pressures increased to suit but not so much it’s snatches the gears. Drives lovely now. Nearly brought the 280 but I do 2k miles a month so would have broke the bank in fuel costs. But then they put the petrol down and diesel up so I imagine I wouldn’t have been a huge difference. Gutted lol

I pay £80-90 to fill the 280 with Momentum 99 You’d be doing that ~4 times per month (maybe 5).

The 280 is probs best not suited, unless your first name is Sheikh

Hahaha yes mate I use optimax diesel but normally get about 500miles to a tank. It’s currently averaging 39 long term over the last 2k miles

Before you do that though it's worth trying the "Audi mod" if you got OBDEleven/VCDS or can find someone close to you to program it. Definitely brings some improvement although not as half as what the pedal box brings, but on the other hand it's completely free...

I'm a complete amateur when it comes to this stuff so bear with me...who can do the OBDEleven/VCDS stuff? Is it something a dealer would do? And if not, does it invalidate the warranty or anything like that? Still waiting for my Superb to arrive but read so much stuff about the throttle response that want to get a good idea of the options available.

Some can be done by the dealer but for this one I'd rather seek a helpful member near me, check this thread and try getting in contact with someone close:

No warranty invalidation.

What type of driving/routes is that?

It would be interesting to see if you're economy improves slightly after the remap.  Mine did by ~5% and that was tank-to-tank calculations.

I did a motorway run the other day down to derby from Sunderland. Not breaking any speed limits by 10% and it averaged 38. Then same route back and got 44
