Rev limit on RS 230 hit at 4000

Featured Replies

Hi all

Was doing a quick test of some revs today, however I accidentally held my foot down too long and hit 4000 then the revs died....The engine remained on but I could no longer do anything, pushing the pedal resulted in nothing. I had to turn the car off and on.

Is this normal ? In fairness I forgot myself and did this while the car was only a quarter warmed up.

Any ideas ?

Thanks

I think the engine will only rev to that in N.

Yes, and that is what I was thinking but it was just so odd that everything then died when it hit it. It wouldn't let me rev it at all even though engine was still on.

Must just be a safety thing.

Yes,  the VW diesels also adopted this some years ago. Was a spell of garage monkeys revving the nuts off engines for emission testing and snapping cam belts. Be glad this legal rev limiting dodge in neutral is acceptable. Emissions tests would otherwise be done under full load to produce the clouds of black smoke seen on our roads.
