How to remove roof console - Octavia MK3 face-lift

Featured Replies

I'm reaching out for help again with regards to removing the roof console in my Octavia MK3 FL VRS. I have a creaking and cracking noise coming from what I think is my roof console. Possibly the plastic fascias are moving and rubbing against each other causing this noise is my theory as there is some play when console is pressed.

Skoda had my car for two days and did nothing so warranty be damned, I'm going to have to fix myself.

I've seen videos on how to remove fascia around roof lights (green arrow) but I also want to remove the next section with vents/sensors (red arrow). For me it's the sort of cover that feels if you pull it wrong it will snap.

Possibly also the unit with the lights in it also. Can anyone please point me to a guide or offer advice?

The hope is I can remove parts and then pad or foam insert around the plastic to stop the parts frictioning against each other.

Pull it from the join with the interior lights. It kind of hinges toward the sunglasses holder and then pull it down and away. There are then 2 T20’s that hold the whole panel into the roof.

Thanks. Out of interest what is housed under this panel, a motion sensor?

Alarm motion sensors and BT Mic. If you have a sunroof it also has the sunroof control :)

Thanks again. Just spotted this video, looks the sameish so could I go at it like this?

I originally followed this video for removing light fascia but regret it now as I think it's warped the plastic very slightly.

Yes you could, it’s the back panel that hinges, not the middle one. Sorry, I got them mixed up, been a while since I took mine apart last. Gunna do it again today though to fit another pair of LED’s because one has blown so thanks for reminding me :D

The second video I linked allows you to get at just bulbs as mine are push from bottom fit. While the first video shows top screw fix.

Any idea on removing the middle vented panel only?

Yeah, pop the rear panel down and pull it out by the ‘hinges’ and then just unclip the middle panel, it comes off very easy. When I change bulbs in there I take the whole thing out otherwise I find the panels don’t go back on straight when it’s still bolted in the car. It all works better on your lap then bolt it back in.

Honestly couldn’t say, I didn’t, I just removed the motion sensor from the trim.

I'm now convinced it's the rear view mirror shroud which is moving or flexing against the glass. Any ideas how to remove this?

Neither of the guides look like mine. I've only got the rain sensor I believe.

Frustratingly having removed and replaced the roof console it now creaks like mad! How can a piece of the interior which is designed to be removed so you can service the bulbs not go back as it was? Every section of the console now creaks if pressed. I'm really starting to hate this car! :@:@:@

If I can't sort out these noises once and for all then I'm strongly considering getting rid as I've not really enjoyed this car since buying.

Hi, how did you get the surround off that the green arrow points to?

I accidentally caught the sunglasses holder and it came out, but I can't find any guides or videos on how to get it back in.
