Hi, I am a new member, as of today; I'd welcome learning if I can change my standard Elegance-spec alloys (225/40/18) for 205/55/16 wheels as I am finding the ride a little harsh? Alternatively, any other suggestions welcome.

Thanks,

Welcome

The 205/55/16” tyres is the approved size for the entry level (’S') spec cars and a size I have previously run as winter tyres with no problems.

Thank you, Gizmo. I appreciate your confirming that. Should that provide a softer ride, as I am hoping? Does this forum have such items for sale?

Yes as there is more sidewall they will not be quite as harsh as your 18’s.

Take a look in the classifieds, just make sure they are 5x112 PCD and around ET45.

This thread has some useful info in the first post that is relevant to the MKII Superb also.

The difference fitting 16 is like night and day on the ride
I fitted 16" from 18" for a while when my wheels were getting re diamond cut ans i was shocked at how smooth the car drove over my usual roads.

But to me they  just look crap in the wheel well so returned to my 18s and the crash bang suspension that you get with them..:devil:

@calumdonaldc

17" is a good compromise ;)

I cant speak for the 18" Superb on low profiles but my Mk2 on 205/55x16 is far more comfortable than my Eclass E250 twin turbo on "staggered" 35 and 45 low profiles even with its rear air suspension....

Thank you to all for your helpful responses; now, if anyone has  a set of 4 Skoda 16" or 17"alloys for sale, then I'd be interested in buying them.

Get them from eBay or Gumtree pretty cheap
£300 delivered
