Experiences Of Fabia MPI 75 Engine?

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

Was looking at ordering a new Fabia in the next few days, most lkkely a Colour Edition.

Given that the deposit contribution is much bigger on the MPI 75 engine, I was weighing that up a possible option versus the more expensive TSI engine.

I've heard nothing but praise for the TSI engines, but very little for the MPI.

I wonder whether some folk who own the MK3 with the 75 engine might want to weigh in and give me their opinions?

Thanks

There is no right or wrong here. All depends on what the car is used for.

My thinking has usually been to get the smallest simplest engine of you do mostly urban driving.

I had a MPI 60 Fabia for a while which did the job required well. It cruised at the legal limit easily on the motorway, runs out of puff if you load it up. The 75 will not be any better unless you rev the nuts off it. As a town car with plenty of space the 60 was fine. I swopped it for a 60 Citigo when my wife retired as we had a 90TSI Fabia Mk3 combi as well. The 90 is a totally different kettle of fish, overtaking is a lot easier as there is a lot more poke.  Over a 7 month period the 60 averaged nearly 44 mpg (actual, not computer) in mixed motoring by my wife, the 90 50mpg, again mixed motoring. I think if I had been driving I would have done better than my wife. The Citigo is averaging 48 but a lot of its motoring is very short runs.

Thanks Peter,

I think you're most likely right.

I currently drive a 1.8 Vectra SRi and have been used to that power for a number of years. I might just have to stretch my budget for the sake of my own sanity!

Other folk on here have pointed out the same as you with the fuel economy, due to the fact you have to work the car much harder on hills etc.

Thanks

Mostly country roads for me, with a small bit of town driving.

Averaging between 50-60mph most of the time.

Thanks
