Fabia VRS Mk2 Brake Upgrade

Featured Replies

I've seen a few people have upgraded the front braked on the MK2 VRS replacing the stock calipers, rotors and pads with the ones from a Golf R32 MK4.
Does anyone have any info on the process, pics or a video would be a plus.
Are there any other options for a brake upgrade?
What about the rear? Can they be upgraded too?
I know they don't really do much, but I'd consider upgrading them simply for the aesthetics. The stock rears are small in comparison to the fronts when stock. And with the upgraded fronts the rear are so tiny it's comical.
Any information would be a real help!

What size disc do you run now?

Currently my car is stock. Not exactly sure what the stock sizes are, I should probably find that out!

Stock is 288mm

id just upgrade the fluid and put decent pads in.

You can upgrade to the 312mm off the mk1 Octavia, a3 and other cars based on that platform. You can pick a set of callipers and carriers up for around the £100 mark. I ran them for quite a while and they’re certainly an upgrade to the stock 288.

or if you wanted to go bigger you can run 323mm 4 pot brembos off the mk1 Leon cupra, I’m not 100% sure but I think that’s the biggest you can go on the standard gigaro wheel. There’s other options like APracing and a few others.

the rear brakes, again from the mk1 Octavia etc are 256mm and are plug and play. You could go bigger but for what the rears get used for there would be no point in going bigger.

as stated above though, if it’s for your normal day to day driving a decent brake fluid with some decent pads would do the job just fine.

Thank you for this info I really appreciate it!

Brake upgrade was my favourite mod - though i kept standard discs size for use with EBC's + Redstuff pads. All a bit overkill for road use but the brakes are a lot better.

ATE / Brembo's DISCS / NEW PADS + NEW DOT 4 would probably do the same job (unless you were tracking the car regular)

I have a set of calibers, discs and carriers, both front and rear, off a 2003 octavia 1.8T, will the rears also fit?. i have 230 now and they are TINY

Are you asking if they’ll fit a mk3 Octavia vRS? The discs won’t because your car is 5x112, the mk1 is 5x100.

If theyre for a mk2 Fabia vRS then yes rears will fit.

My apologies, when you said 230 I thought you meant the mk3 Octavia vRS .

yes the rears will fit :)

Ah alright :P

nice! i think 312 front and 230 rear will look quite awful, so i hope the rears fit with no problem :P do i need carriers or just the caliber/discs in the rear?

I’m actually running 323mm 4 pots on the front and standard on the rears and it’s never really bothered me, I guess it’s just down to personal preference as the rears don’t really do much. As for the carriers on the rears I’m not 100% sure but I’m gunna say yes you’ll need them.

Make sure you treat your callipers to some decent pads and not the cheapo ones

Im all about the look, not performance x) my car is stanced and just for show haha. so I have to upgrade the rears   I think im going to get greenstuff

I think the backs are just as important as the fronts and should be upgraded in proportion to the fronts or unbalanced braking may occur under heavy braking or in an emergency.

Sorry to bring this back.

@LMG I have a 1.2tsi monte that came with 288mm fronts stock. Wanting to upgrade them to 312mm now.

Am i right in saying i just need 312 carriers, discs and pads. And the calipers for 288 and 312 are the same? Or is this not the case and in order to change i also need 312 calipers?

Getting confused after speaking to many different people about this. You seem to know what you're talking about after already doing this upgrade.

Just been looking at 312 carriers from mk1 audi TT, mk2 a3, mk1 occy, mk4 golf. Don't know if there's a Seat that is also on that platform?

Planning on leaving the rear drums as they are, only going upto around 150bhp so they're sufficent.

Also if anyone here has front 312mm calipers / carriers for sale, i am interested. Planning on getting them installed for summer 2021.

This is nonsense by the way, the stronger the front brakes, the greater the weight shift and the less work the back brakes can do before locking, bigger back brakes are only needed when breaking from very high speeds or if the vehicle is particularly heavy like big fat German supersaloons with big engines or track cars. A Skoda Fabia is neither of these things.

It's factual rather than just opinion, there are equations that back it up.

Big back brakes are a RICE, ricer.

Sepulchrave is right I think the back brakes account for 5-15% of braking in the fabia which if you want to add weight with bigger fatter brakes on the back for 5-15% of braking be my guest

According to data logs there’s no benefit over rear drums and 256mm rear vented brakes.

im not 100% sure if you can mix the 288 and the 312 caliper as there must be some sort of difference so for the sake of it I’d make sure your calipers come with carriers, you’d find most kits do anyway, the only thing you will need is a new copper washer for the banjo for when you swap brake hoses over. No idea if he’s still around or if the prices are still the same but on the ol’ ebay you could buy a 312mm kit refurbed and sprayed for around the £150 mark.

Once again, they’re all the same so from any of them platforms will be fine, I hardly doubt there’s much of a price difference. Treat your car to some new brake fluid and decent pads whilst your at it 👍

Nice one, cheers for info . I'll keep my eye out on ebay for a decent set.

Worth keeping an eye on the Briskoda forum's Part for sale, and also placing a Wanted ad.

This is quite interesting.. Why is it though that the higher models do have disk brakes at the back?

I've upgraded my front brakes to the 323mm 4pots and the standard Gigaro does NOT fit because of the shape of the inside from the spokes. There are a lot of wheels that doesn't fit...
