I've upgraded my front brakes to the 323mm 4pots and the standard Gigaro does NOT fit because of the shape of the inside from the spokes. There are a lot of wheels that doesn't fit...


 

only models that had them was the vrs and Greenline. 

Over here in the Netherlands they were swapped between several models, including dsg ones. But still doesn't answer the question why a lot of cars have disk brakes if they perform the same as a drum

Probably to do with the costs and budgets, drums will be cheaper to manufacter and install so depending on the cars variant / budget will depend on the components used? This is just a assumption. Also, depending on how the manufacter wants the veichle to look out the factory, many prefer the look of disc brakes to drums. 

 

So to at least try and answer the question, I am guessing it's for aesthetics, avaliability of components and the costs associated with these (this might be why they swap bewteen the two). Obviously depending on the country each veichle may be designed and manufactered slightly different.

That's true, it's always about the money. But in my opinion the disk brakes always be better than drums. That is logic. The way the abs and booster divides the brake power between the front and rear is very front biased of course but even though if you gain a 20% brake power win at the rear, it should be noticeable.. 

Not sure what is noticeable about the discs over the drums for road use or even fast road use.  (Try the brakes on a MOT brake tester.)

The brakes slow or stop the car as long as the tyres keep traction with the road and the back end can still lose traction with drums or discs.

(Mk2 vRS have lumps of weight added to the rear crash bar.)

Either set up can still allow hand brake turns, J turns etc.

Mk2 Fabia vRS OEM rear brakes are adequate for road use as are the fronts.   That is IMO, so nothing worth writing home about.

 

Fabia Greenline built to be lighter and more economic on fuel and lower emissions. vRS was sandbagged to have it heavier than the VW Polo GTI, have higher Emissions & poorer economy.  Funny thing was that VW gave false VW Polo GTI kerb weights and had to revise them and as it was the vRS was still lighter, and no slower.

Greenline got them because ironically enough the disc set up was lighter than drums...

Drums give you a much stronger handbrake, discs are better at scrubbing off speed, faster cars have rear discs because there is far less weight transfer when braking at high speed.

Drums are always cheaper for the manufacturer.

you are correct, maybe I should of edited that last year. I sold my gigaros and bought some TT comps when I first purchased the car so I never found out. 
 

Awesome bit of kit aren't they? Paired some DS2500 pads and some mtec discs together they bite pretty well. 
 

 

Yeah, genuinely like them. Have also the TT comps since nothing else fits really.

Really like the looks of it and they really slow you down good, no fading since the replacement.

 

I've got Brembo disks and pads, give a oem pedal feel. After I changed the rear drums to disks, I need to change the settings of the abs pump. Did you already did that?

So I’ve recently brought this mk2 Fabia VRS.Very happy with my purchase… I’ve read through all the forums for potential upgrades etc and I’ve got a list of mods that I’ll be looking on purchasing but I’m quite confused on the whole upgraded brake topic and would like some clarification. 
 

Am I right in thinking this 310mm Audi S1 brake set up will fit straight on with my current 17inch VRS wheels?
