Dsg failed

Featured Replies

Hi new to site.

Could anyone please share any issues they have had with a failed DSG gearbox,

I collected my new Octavia Est vrs 2tdi 2weeks ago done 550 miles and bang, it sounded as tho the driveshafts has snapped unable to get drive on the dsg,

AA patrol said he thinks that the multitronic’s box has failed.

Has anyone had any similar issues.

Many thanks

Sorry to hear. Tough times.

Did you buy from a dealer?  If so, over to them to sort it out.

Yes bought from dealer they are looking into the fault,

just didn’t expect this on a new car.

I'd be inclined to reject the car as having a fundamental fault. I know somebody who bought a Vauxhall Insignia 4x4 brand new and the Haldex clutch failed just before the manufacturers warranty ended. The next TWO Haldex clutches lasted 1000 miles and three miles. At £4k a go that is one faulty car and they think it's the software doing it so he rejected the car in its entirety. God help whoever gets it next

With your car are you going to insist on a new transmission or let them repair the existing one ? In either event I think the vehicle is compromised and you will never quite trust it.

I’m awaiting the inspection from the garage to see what’s gone wrong on it.

apparently a new gearbox is around 6k.

How easy is it to reject the car?

if I did have the car back with a new transmission and it failed again then I would like to think they would take it back.

I would be inclined to reject the car. That is a substantial failure and has ruined your new car experience. Hope it all works out for you

Here’s what to do if you have a problem with a new or used car bought from a dealer:

  • Contact the dealer as soon as you notice the problem – in person if possible.
  • If the dealer offers to fix the problem, make sure you understand any costs involved. Keep a record of your conversations and correspondence, and get all verbal agreements in writing.
  • If all else fails, you can reject your car as long as you tried to resolve the issue with the dealer first.
  • You must give the dealer details of your reasons for rejecting the car in writing, and within six months of taking delivery of it.
  • If the dealer refuses to accept your rejection of the car, contact the customer relations department of its manufacturer straight away. They might be able to mediate.
  • For help making your complaint, you can use Resolver.co.uk. The Ombudsman Services said “Resolver.co.uk is a free online service and app offering consumer advice and simplifies the process of complaining.”

You’ve been very unlucky but sometimes things do go wrong, even on a new car. It will be fixed under warranty at no cost to you, just make sure they provide you with a decent replacement car whilst yours is repaired. Oh and make sure you get some compensation for your troubles, ie free services, or some accessories.

Thanks for advice been given another Octavia not a vrs but it’s a car, will wait and see what the garage comes back with.

I would be pushing for a replacement g'box if at all possible.  A failure like that could have done damage to allsorts.  As @alfalincs comment, "you will never quite trust it".  Next best thing is some sort of extended warranty on the transmission?

Commiserations buddy - were there any warning signs or did it just go pop out of nowhere?

Mine's just passed 1250 miles and I'm starting to let the reins off it a bit.

no Warning and no light just a bang as I was leaving a junction.

:( nasty.

Best thing for now is wait and see what the verdict is. I'd take the AA guy's diagnosis with a pinch of salt, there's possibly a bit of old school guesswork going on there as earlier VAG DSG/Stronics suffered heavily with mechatronic failures.

Sorry to hear,

but this sounds like a manufacturing fault, possibly a faulty casting of a gear which has cracked or similar

Rejection is an option, but if it turns out to have a damaged gearbox and it is fully replaced under warranty then no reason to reject.

When Skoda phone back with the diagnosis will let you know.

I'm with SJ ^^^^

Something's gone wrong.  It's unfortunate and undoubtedly frustrating, but sometimes things just break.  The garage will restore it to it's former glory, and you'll be off again.

If it isn't fixed properly, then you of course will have reason to reject it if you so choose.  The idea of rejecting it now, just because something went bang, you don't yet know what it is, nor what will be done to resolve it, seems a bit of a knee-jerk reaction to me.  At least wait until you can make a fully informed decision.

Phew, good news indeed.
