All 3 Break lights are constantly on.

Featured Replies

Changed brake light switch and still no fix.

only turns off brakes light if the switch is out or if the fuse is taken out.

Started off as i had no brake lights at all, so changed fuse, checked bulbs but still nothing.. i changed the switch and now from not going on to constantly staying on??

When you fitted the switch did you do this

"Pull the brake light switch tappet out completely up to its stop before installing, as it will be automatically adjusted when installing."

It is as far out as it can go and still no luck.. I have tried it just plugged into the switch it self with no pressure to the switch and they are still constantly on??

With the plunger fully out the lights will be ON as that is the same as the pedal being pressed,

Note

tThe brake light switch may only be installed once to ensure that it has an adequately tight fit.

tCarry out assembly of the brake light switch after clipping the brake pedal with the brake servo unit → Chapter.

tBefore assembling the brake light switch grease the contact surface of the pedal tappet with polycarbamide grease -G 052 142 A2-.

Pull the brake light switch tappet out completely up to its stop before installing, as it will be automatically adjusted when installing.

–Guide the brake light switch through in the assembly opening and install by turning it 45° to the right.

Brake pedal always remains in the off position in this case (not actuated).

–After installing the brake light switch, check whether brake pedal is in the end position (release position).

–Insert the plug for the brake light switch.

–Checking the function of the brake light switch:

Actuate brake pedal ⇒ brake lights must light up.

Release brake pedal ⇒ brake lights must go out

Was it a genuine replacement switch?

How’d you mean? Genuine ??

Sold by a Skoda dealership. VW Group branded.

I think Wino asked that question because VW Group have changed the design of these switches a few times, first a colour change to designate that it was the later modified part, then the next one looked entirely different, ie a more re-hash of the switch. The latest "different looking" version can be fitted wrongly, taken out and reset and fitted again, the earlier ones, I think, if fitted wrongly were scrap.

So, another question:- does this switch look different to the one that was removed (I'm assuming here that few is any/many cars have needed to get the latest version of switch replaced due to failure) - can you tell us the VW Group part number on that new switch?

The early switches had to be fitted with the pedal depressed and you need to turn the switch through 90 degrees, the latest switch, different looking item, had to be fitted with the pedal in the up position again turning the switch through 90 degrees until you feel it clicking very slightly.

Edit:- well maybe it is only 45 degrees, it has been a very long time since I replaced an older modified version for the latest different looking version!

The genuine ones were only £11 last time I bought one.
