Road Noise

No offence taken........Austerity Blue and my 13 year old Audi alloys fitted with tyres that shrug off kerbs.....little point in making it look too smart......☺️

Austerity Blue - :D     All sounds far too sensible to me. You should have thrown caution to the wind and re-used the Audi centre caps - some folk may then have thought to themselves  is it a Q5 or Q7?

Too many Audi driving thieving barstewards about. They aren’t cheap, cost more than the wheels are worth!

I would love to hear an update on this topic, or some pictures of the sound deadening in the boot. I've just bought a 2018 1.0 manual se nav plus on the 16" Bridgestone turanza's. The low rumbling noise is quite annoying. Prevalent on rougher surfaces.

I have an Octavia III and have put sound deadening (both Dynamat and closed cell foam) on the floor from front to back, doors and the wheel wells. While it made a difference to general noise it didn't make much difference to the tyre noise.

I'm more pretty sure that it is the suspension transferring the noise. I think this is because it is connected directly to the body without any insulation. Older cars with chassis had rubber mounts between the suspension and the chassis, modern cars like skodas don't have that same chassis so the suspension noises are just transferred straight into the body.

I did my sound deadening myself so I didn't lose much. Knowing what I know now I wouldn't p pay someone to do it because it doesn't solve the main problem.

Thanks. That is my suspicion too. That is the suspension rather than tyres. I'm afraid to try driving another Karoq in case it doesn't sound so noisy but I want to do something about this. The possibility that it is the tyres I have doubts about. And buying a set of Goodyear's or whatever in the hope of a solution is an awfully expensive risk. I have to take the car into the garage next week to get a small part replaced so will ask what they think about it then, but I expect them to dismiss that there is a problem at all. I'm within the 30 day exchange period but doubt I could afford any of their other 2nd hand Karoqs.

See my post of December 23 here:

Still think that, aside from under the carpets and the boot floor and spare wheel well, fitting sound deadening is easier said than done.

Access to the wheel arches (trim removal) and door skins (door card removal) may be problematical. Has anyone done it?

I'll tell you what really does need a dose of soundproofing in my Karoq, the windscreen wiper motor, noisiest wiper motor I've ever had in a vehicle.

Anyone else noticed their wiper motor noise?

Agree with that, it's definitely very noisy which along with dragging blades makes for unpleasant drives in the rain.

The dragging blades ............... have you read the threads about noisy wiper blades and the deep satisfaction to be had by replacing them with something better - e.g. Bosch? Or maybe you've already changed your blades?

Bumping this topic up, because it was most recent one on this forum... I'am very sensitive about road noise, it ruins my time on long distance travels... I'am currently using Dunlop WinterSport 5 for winter and they are decently quiet, but I have Continetal Premium Contact 5 as Summer tires and they are loud as hell. Does anyone has experience with Goodyear Efficienty Grip Performance 2 regarding noise levels?

I would’ve bought an Audi. Skoda are the absolute worse for road noise, even with the quietest sounding tyres. I ended up getting so sick of it, I fitted my MK1 with sound deadening on the floor pan and it helped a lot.

I watched a YT review from an Australian motor writer who commented on the tyre noise coming into the cabin. The vehicle was a Sportline fitted with Bridgestone tyres and was more evident on course chip bitumen roads.

My current drive which isn't a Skoda has tyre noise coming into the cabin whilst driving over course chip bitumen roads. If the Skoda is like this, I can accept it and just deal with it.

When I was looking to change cars I drove a BMW X1. I was very disappointed with the tyre noise, my Yeti was quieter.

A little while later my Yeti was in for a service/MoT and I looked at the Karoq SEL. After a test drive I bought a pre-reg car of the same spec (64 miles on the clock). The tyre noise was still there although not so bad. Both the X1 and the Karoq were fitted with Bridgestone Turanzas, say no more!

Goodyear 4 seasons Gen2

If only they did them to fit my Karoq on 18” rims.

Tom

Just taken a look at Blackcircles and noticed that Gen 3 are now available on Karoq 18" wheels.

https://www.blackcircles.com/catalogue/goodyear/vector-4seasons-gen-3/215/50/R18/W/92/f?tyre=40971941

They appear to be rated at 71dBs.

My Karoq won't be ready to be re-shod (from Touranzas) yet but, when the time comes, I will give the Goodyears serious consideration. My wife has Gen-2s all round on her B-max, and they have performed very well in the recent snow.

If anyone tries them, I'd be very grateful for a report on here.

I drove Audi A4 and noise levels weren't that different. Hard to tell, but it wasn´t like driving Mercedes E class, which is noticably quieter than anything i was in.

I had a chance to test Goodyear winter tyres on Octavia 2 and car seemed quieter than my Superb on Continental summer tyres on certain surfaces.
