I have seen Google Navigation (ie via Android Auto) appear on a 'digital dash', but it was a current model Honda CR-V, which was on my short list before I opted for a Kodiaq.

On the CR-V, Google Nav displayed as expected on the main screen, and on the digital instruments there was a skeletal 'next direction only' display, confirming that Android Auto does indeed support 2 screens.

The Honda infotainment system is pretty crude by modern standards (but not nearly as awful as Toyota's) so I conclude that if VAG wanted to, VC could support at the very least some cut-down version of the navigation displayed on the main screen.

As an aside, another car on the short list was a Volvo XC40 and on a test drive I tried Android Auto. Worked fine on the main screen, but nothing on the instrument cluster. Not surprising because fairly soon, the Volvo Sensus system will transition to a native Android OS.

In Seat's with VC you can display waze on VC

From what i understand from the dealer in Czech Republic its not allowed by law to display waze on the VC....

We need to find a way to do it

So how are SEAT able to do it then?

Colleague has a 2019 SEAT with VC, and all that he can do is to have Waze functioning on the main screen and the built-in nav map displaying on VC, but not Waze on VC. He reckons this does not happen spontaneously - he has to do some weird stuff in Android Auto (like stop/re-start or something) to achieve this. He can't get this to work at all with Google Navigation - just the usual blank bit of the screen where the map would be in VC.

As I said in a previous post, this is not a limitation of Android Auto or Google navigation, it's a limitation of the infotainment system (because it kind of works on a current-model Honda CR-V, not known for cutting-edge infotainment)

In Android Auto, Google maps (on headunit screen) and built in navigation (on VC) doesn`t work together at the same time.

Waze and built in nav will work together, but you have to perform the following:

start to navigate with Waze (car map disappears on VC)

start to navigate with car navigation (Waze will stop navigating)

start to navigate with Waze again. Car navigation with directions will stay active on VC, Waze will be active on headunit.

Linni, that's interesting and does indeed sound like what my colleague said: so you get two independent nav systems working at the same time - would be interesting to see if their chosen routes coincide.....

Are you saying that the above will work on the Skoda infotainment systems as well as Seat?

Shame that we can't have Waze or Google Navigation on both screens - that would be brilliant (and the CR-V was all the more impressive because the Head-Up Display on EX trim also included the cut-down navigation prompts from either built-in nav (Garmin) or Android Auto/Google Nav)

Yes, using this combination all the time with my Columbus.

from an Xcellence Tarraco. seems SEAT have better VCs than Skodas

Not sure, but I suppose Seat is using the same hardware as all the cheaper VW cars (VW; Skoda) and this might be VC working together with MIB 3 Headunit, which was first introduced this year on Scala.

Tarracco is on MIB2, SEAT just have a different ‘skin’. I personally really didn’t like the SEAT version, at least with the Cupra Ateca

Just got my new Škoda Karoq MY 2021 with Amudsen infotainment and Virtual Cockpit. I'm not able to display Google Map on VC via android auto. It's visible on cemter console but not on the VC

What do you think, will this feature be avaiable in some future? Is that a thing of updating a car software of we will  need to buy a new car with newer infotainment system?

For me it does sound like a software update.

Unfortunately with Amundsen system I can't have maps on VC and center console at the same time, so I was hoping to do that with Android Auto.

In my opinion this could be done only with a major firmware update.

I don't think we will see it on the Kodiaq.

You cannot even play Waze at the same time with original navigation anymore. Cannot understand why they had to close this feature down.

So hardly there will be any improvement in the future.

Over on the UK Facebook group this week, someone reported that their maxidot was displaying turn-by-turn directions from Waze and Google Maps. This was on a MY2021. A few others reported that they also have this functionality on their 2017, 2018 and 2020 reg cars, including one who said it was working on their VC (turn by turn only, not full map). The original poster noted that there was about a 45 second period after starting navigation where the maxidot went blank, before then displaying the navigation. No one mentioned any special procedures, or any changes to default settings. Does anyone have any insight into what's going on here? Why do these lucky few have this functionality??

Hi @Teir

I can confirm that turn-by-turn is visible on my Virtual Cockpit once google maps route is activated.

Sorry bu terrible image quality. I moved my phone after a shot. Will take better one next ride.

Any way to have the full map?

I have an Amundsen system and Skoda Karoq  MY2021. So far I don't see a way to show a full googe map.

Thanks @Wladaaaaa, that's helpful. Did it work like that immediately when you got the car, or did you have to change anything? Do you select navigation in your maxidot, or does it overlay the turns on whatever else is on there? (e.g., speed etc)

I'm fascinated by why this works for some people and not others. It doesn't seem to be dependent on model year, infotainment system (Amundsen/Columbus), or analogue vs virtual cockpit. I'm not sure what the variables are here. I'd love to hear if anyone has any ideas!

It could be possible on MIB 3 headunits (MY 21) but it is definitely not possible on MIB 2,5 headunits (pre 2020).

It worked for me without any configuration. When I activate route guidance on AA (google maps) it automatically shows turn-by-turn arrows.

Yes, I have a navigation view selected in my VC

Also, view map on the VC option needs to be deactivated (native map). With that ON I  can't see directions from AA.

I'm sure you're right - this is the only explanation that makes sense. I just got my hopes up when 5 or 6 people on that group said that they had it on their 2017 and 2018 cars! I think they must have just misunderstood.
