Snowball chance in hell.

There is the dealership giving an over inflated price, then Skoda (VW) giving a gesture at the expense of the dealership and the parts as priced / engine is coming from VW.

Its all a load of kidology with any percentage contribution you are offered.   Actual Cash Money iscwhat they want from you.  They are not giving you a cent.

Got an update from the dealership today, with a total repair cost of £7,099.16

Will find out on Friday if Skoda are going to contribute.
Does anyone have any experience of getting Skoda to give the contribution in cash so I could get it repaired at an independent?

Why would they pay you to take it to another place when they have the kit and mechanics and potentially make some money from you or Skoda. Sorry to see it happen to you, good job it wasn't modified or youceould have no chance of any assistance.

It’s any contribution from Skoda I’m after not the dealership. The dealership has already said they won’t contribute anything.

I have very low confidence in the dealerships ability to build it to a good standard.

What are they Building?  Is that not a quote for a Base Engine in a crate arriving from Germany from the refinishing factory and them fitting it?

Nope that’s to rebuild the engine that has failed.

That is nonsense.   The Base engine without VAT is under £4,000.      That is buying one. VW have them they are the supplier,

If it was a direct engine swap I would be happier, less for the dealership to screw up.

edit: the reason I was given for them not having a price earlier is that they needed parts technical to advise conrod bolts as they were grayed out.

They got the new part number yesterday and got the full cost done today.

Engine swap for sure, why would they rebuild it after large/total oil loss?

I don’t know why they would considering the cost. I think the dealership are not very good and maybe not detailed/explained the issue properly.
Thinking about it I’m not sure they really know what caused it to actually fix it properly.

Have you called Skoda directly?

Nope, the dealership Have claim they have to do it.

I’ll see what they say on Friday after Skoda come back to them and then maybe call directly.

I would call customer services myself ASAP as otherwise that’ll be a big bill.

So I went to the dealership to take a look at the car and engine.

The piston rings are all seized in and the ring gaps aligned, no surprise there is loads of blow by with the rings aligned.

The PCV valve was all rough 90% around the diaphragm opening so this can't have been sealing properly and probably helped with more oil going to the intake as the vales are really thick coated in carbon as are the piston crowns.

So the 7K bill includes a turbo and when I checked it there was minimal movement and that's without any oil, so the bill can be £1575 cheaper and its not covered by Skoda at all.

So the parts comes to £2030, Labour £3500 making £5530.

I was told a new base engine is just over £5K and then VAT on top, they are only given when the rods or cranks need replacing as they are all coded and matched and not available for service.

Skoda seem to have 4 warranty/goodwill systems. Factory, Matrix, Customer Care and Dealership.

So the dealership came back with Factory 0%, Matrix 70%, Customer Care 0% and the dealership offer 0%

I've called customer care and will hear back next week as they already have an agreement with me for the next service and obviously that will be part of this engine rebuild so offering nothing is not going to work or aligned to what they have already agreed too.

2016 car, 33k miles must surely get some warranty contribution. If not then Sale of Goods Act as someone mentioned earlier.

Failing all that I’m sure you could get a second hand salvage engine for less than £2,000.

So I finally got the car back this weeks.

4 1/2 months after it was unloaded to Skoda, the dealership did spend 8 weeks closed due to Covid-19.

Skoda paid 90% of the engine repair and I had the remaining items of the next service done.

In the end got new pistons & turbo and all the valves we cleaned and recut with new seals.

Its nice to have it back compared to the 1.5 Estate i had.

They might contribute but I suspect only towards a dealer network repair. I very much doubt they will help you if it’s outside of the network and warranty period, as it’s so expensive and that it’s not yet a widespread issue...like previous ABS and chain tensioner type issuess, even if there’s a service bulletin. I hope you do get some help with such a low mileage and newish car.
