Wheel rotation and tpms

Featured Replies

I have asked my independent to rotate my road wheels front to rear on my 2017 SEL estate 110.  I then started thinking about how this might affect the tpms and whether there are any problems. This is my first vehicle with tpms , wheel rotation has always been perfectly straightforward before. I believe that Skoda  use indirect tpms that relies on the existing ABS and the speed of the wheels going round rather than the direct tpms that actually measures the tyre pressure. itself?

I know I will have to input the changes on the tpms that I access via "Car" on the infotainment system when the wheels have been rotated. Is there anything else I need to know about rotating wheels on my vehicle?  i am a tad confused about the sensors as its indirect. I assume the wheels must have sensors whether its indirect or direct for the tpms to function, to do its job? That being so, do the sensors stay with their wheel when it is moved?  I hope they do because otherwise the cost of having  the 4 road   wheels rotated is going to make it more difficult to justify having the job done at all in cost benefit terms.

                          Thanks in advance.

Yes; in short it uses the ABS sensors, and assumes that an increase in rotational speed means a drop in tyre pressure.

The wheels have no sensors, so you can move them around at will.

When you move them around remember the TPMS needs reset. Or more sensible check and set tyre pressures and reset the TPMS.

Tyre pressures do not need to be the same on all 4 wheels, so front and rear can be different, you might even have an odd one out.

If fitting the Spare reset the TPMS while it is on, and then reset when removed and the original or replacement fitted after the pressure is checked / set.
