Battery & Starting Issue.

Featured Replies

How do I remove this thing on my battery?
I went to start my car today and vid related happened.
Does anyone know what it is? Just a dead battery or could it be starter motor or something?
I was able to jump the car to get it started.
But I'd still like to replace the battery in hopes that that's all the issue is. I'm just not sure how to go about removing the plastic stuff covering the terminal with out breaking it.

Also, when I replace the battery with a new one, will I have to enter any codes or do anything for the radio, security alarm or anything like that?

I think I've figured out how to get the battery out. Still unsure what the issue was or if I'll have to enter any codes if I change the battery?

Factory fitted radios don't need any help when changing batteries.

You would only need to remove the two battery terminals and the plastics will come away with them.

Remove the earth (-) first, re-attach last is the golden rule. The positive (+) on the left of the photo, just behind the black plastics, once loosened by its nut, will just pull up and off, along with the fuse panel etc.

There will then be the retaining bolt, in front of the battery around the centre and at its lower edge/foot, that clamps the battery to the car. A bolt head with a small bracket. Thats what stops the battery from flying forward when you brake hard!

BTW, where all your plastics are, just where you can see the positive terminal, there should be a small black hinged cover, too. It looks there like it is missing. You would flip that up to actually get to the positive terminal and then flap it down, to prevent accidentally touching it with metal tools, etc, when working in the engine area.

They are replaceable and quite cheap from a main dealer, if it bother you. (Didn't but now it will)!

Thanks I appreciate the tips.
And as for the plastic cover it doesn't bother me too much.

I got a new battery today and just got finished installing it.
The battery is smaller than the one I removed but according to multiple sites it is the correct battery for my car.
the plastic clips don't connect to the battery like they did to the last one.
the positive connection doesn't fit as snug as it did on the previous battery either.
I also couldn't get the battery blanker/cover to fit around this new battery.
after installing the new battery there were no issues aside from having to set the clock.

I am still unsure what the starting issue was though (shown in the video in my original post) if anyone knows what it might be please let me know!!

That positive battery post/clamp doesn't look right.

You might need to have another go at that, as that could possibly overheat as it is.

Yeah, like I said.

I'll have another go tomorrow trying to push it down a little further but it really didn't want to go on in any other way.

Looks like the two parts of the clamp aren't correctly engaged on the side opposite that nut, somehow.

does it still do that noise, after the new battery unit?

It hasn't happened since that day. before I changed the battery the car started fine as well. so I'm really unsure what it was.

I would have suggested it was the starter motor not getting enough power to turn over so if its no longer happening, relax!

I hope that's it. the issue hasn't happened since the day I changed the battery. I'm still going to keep and eye on things just in case.
