Boot lever working

Featured Replies

New to this forum, so first, hello all.

I have an issue that has occurred overnight, in that the rear door will not open if I use the door lever above the number plate. Central locking is all working fine via the key fob, I can hear the boot unlock, and lock properly. When unlocked, I can clamber in and manually open the boot by inserting a screwdriver and releasing it as per p222 in the manual.

Tried closing the door firmly several times, issue still there. Further to this, there does not appear to be any resistance when applying pressure to the lever anymore.

Going in for service at local garage next week, but forewarned is forearmed.

Any ideas? All help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Mals

a quick update, after driving around, it seems to be working now. Still none the wiser why that is, perhaps battery related, or perhaps the car has re-learnt to trust the fob, no idea 🤔

Check your resting voltage, prefereably first thing in the morning, and before starting the car. If it is less than 12.4v you will soon need a new battery.
If you have stop/start be warned they aren't cheap and the car may need reprorgramming.

I thought the boot release was electrical, you just press a push button.

I must be misunderstanding something.

You’re right, it is.  It’s not a lever but a button that activates a screw linear actuator that pops the latch open.  Chances are in this case the button is simply dirty or failing.

And very likely is the problem if the boot release button on the key fob still works should the issue manifest itself again.

Yes I described it as a lever when in fact it is a button under a rubber seal. It normally produces a satisfying clunk, but again it has stopped working. PITA with two large dogs who now have to tunnel in/out over a dropped seat 😂

When you say dirty, how would I clean it?

I don't have start-stop. Do you think a battery issue could cause just this one mechanism not to fire? When blowers work ok with no engine, radio, other doors unlock, windows raise/drop ok?

But thanks I will definitely check the battery state asap.

yeah bad choice of words, it is definitely a button, and by resistance, I was trying to describe (badly) the feedback I normally get, a clunk and I can definitely feel something move in to place. However it has stopped working again which is perplexing 😬

Low battery voltage has been found to cause all sorts of odd problems, and generally 5 years is about the limit when they have been found to be failing.

ok thanks for that, it's in tomorrow so I will have them check battery and post the outcome.

A belated update on this, had the panel off myself, tested the lock mechanism, it worked, tested the battery, it was fine. Got a cheap lever/switch off ebay, replaced that and now all working, thanks everybody!
