TDi Octy metal sump protector

Featured Replies

Ok, just rung Yeovil (still waiting for Westover to call back)

skid plate (x1) - 85.12

sound abs (x1) - 29.90

retainer (x2) - 13.04

bolts (x7) - 0.96

retainer bolts (x2) - 1.05

all +vat as well. There are offering a discount for multiple purchases....

They've neglected to tell you that they have to insert some thread inserts into the chassis rails to mount the "retainer" on each side. Sadly this makes it a bit difficult for DIY fitting unless you have an air powered nutsert tool.

and by the looks of it some more retainers at the back as well.... DIY fitting is look less likely then :-( Especially as the price is reaching that of a new sump!!

They aren't far off what I told you in the other thread.

Try shopping around a couple of dealers. Don't let the nutserts bother you, you should be able to find someone to do it for you. It may be nearing the cost of a sump but that's only one isn't it - it'll be more expensive if you smash one then think bugger i'll buy the guard.

I'll get prices from Winchester tomorrow and see how they compare :)

Anyway cost of sump, but not the cost of sump and being without your car for a week while you get a new one fitted and the oil change etc etc

You might need to get a sump guard fitted soon, if you are thinking of heading off to the Cat & Fiddle meet.

Does this meet have a history with octavias and sumps then?

It's does have a few bumpy/jumpy roads on its tour of the Peak District.

Could I take it these would be bumpy/jumpy/oily roads now then :p

Right I've dropped the PDF in with the dealer and asked them to quote for 1 off and asked if there is a discount for 10 off.

Shoudl get the prices tonight or tomorrow. The guy there thought it was only about 30minutes fitting if I wanted to get it fitting so hardly seems worth the effort of DIY and getting the right tools.

On the plus point I got an Octy II TDi as a hire car and :D massive grin, it's really really nice on the m/way for cruising and it's only the 1.9

Is that the dealer in Winchester? Need to use that price to on Westover (who *still* have not called me back.....)

Yeah it's Winchester Skoda :) getting some warrenty work and a brake fluid change that was forgotten to be done by a dealer with the service done there.

As you can probably see from the PM I have my reasons for a lack of faith in westover for anything more than basic work

I assume we might be able to trust Westover to do the sumps though? Need a discount for 2 or more though.. unless we can drum up more Dorset/Hampshire customers!

Well see what they say, might be worth getting an Octy Meet together in the winchester area or something and looking to arrange a group buy on here if things are favourable.

Anybody know how to set up a group buy on here without upsetting people.

I am sure I could be up for that.....

Yes, PM flatfourburble iirc, he handles the co-ordination of GBs

:iagree::iagree: - said with feeling :mad::mad::mad:

It may be worth asking if they've actually fitted one as I'd be amazed if they could fit one in 30mins.

Will check that this eve however if they give a fitted price they give a fitted price :)

I will also point out that it is ba5tard heavy!

I'd say an hour or so to fit it

There go my good MPGs!

Does it make doing oil changes, etc a bit more of a pain in the backside then?

Who cares? That's what I pay the dealer for :D

Oh and as for MPG, I only manage to average 58-60 on a run :(

Fitting/removing for an oil change alone would require 2 people to lift it - especially with the car on a ramp where you cant just drop it on the floor.

Supprised there isn't a small hole in it with a cap or something about 1" or so diameter to expose the sump plug and nothing else.

I'll ask about that too if i remember as the car is now in until tomorrow (not unexpected) due to a knocking noise being ARB bushes and none being in stock. Woo I get to play with an Octy II for an evening :D

My local back street VW independant fitted mine 6 months ago. Cost was
