Electric window not working.

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a MK2 Fabia 1.4 2008

Yesterday I had some trouble with my electric window I put them both down when I got in the car to let all the stuffy heat out before I put the air con on.

The passenger window went right down but the drivers side stoped about 2 inch from the bottom I put both windows back up once I got on the motorway and when I went to put them down later on there was no response on either the driver or passenger side.

I've had a look at it today.

The fuses was fine, ive checked the wiring loom from the door to the car and some of the wire insulation is starting to split but I put electrical tape around each wire so none are touching each other.

Ive checked the motor and switch with a multimeter and there is power going to it.

When the motor was taken off it would work freely from the switch and the passenger side was working fine. I put it all back together again and then it worked great but then just cut off and it wouldn't work again untill I took the Moto off and disconnected and reconnected the battery again.

I took the metal plate off to get to the cable to see if it's jamming or needs some silicone grease and the gear with the cable around came out.

I tried putting it back together again but it just kept winding around in the gear and crimped it's self together.

I've took the cable out and put everything back together and I can hear the motor working freely and the passenger side is working.

I'm going to order a new cable regulator and give it all a good clean inside.

Is there anything else on the window system like a relay or anything that could keep cutting out I'm out of options now.

Thanks for any help

I forgot to add what my car is

I dunno quite how it works but they do have a cut out system, for safety. It can kick in and make window winding difficult just from having something like tree sap on the glass. They become very sticky and the extra work needed to use the windows can cause them to stop or run funny.

As for the door loom, they are very prone to snap so check them again and be sure they are not fractured and just working irregularly. Both sides, too.

opefully, someone with better knowledge of the window motor system, regulator and convenience module thingy, will come along soon.

Ah it sounds like it could be the cut out system then because both sides stoped working completely untill I did the battery trick.

And yeah that makes sense because when I had the motor in my hand it was turning perfectly and then when I put it back on it struggled and cut off again so it must be struggling. I do clean around the seals when I wash the car but I think it will probably need a deeper clean. When I change the cable regulator I'll take the glass out and give it a good scrub and I'll get a butter knife with a rag and get right in the seal gaps.

And I might disconnect the whole loom and spend some time following the wires right threw and solder any damages wires.

Thanks for your help

Try not to cut the seal or split it. It is only really a kind of window wiper as the window gets raised/lowered and not totally watertight but you wouldn't want to damage it.

Perhaps use a little rain-x on the outside of the glass so as to repel water/sap, etc.

There is also a method to reset the auto windows, after removing the battery so as to have the one touch function.
