Hi Pete,

New to this forum and still trying to work out how to navigate it properly, so my apology if this is the wrong route, plus I have limited access until I've complete 20 somethings !

I have a Skoda Fabia mk1 6Y2 on a 56 plate which I have recently aquired. The previous owner had obviously had an issue with the passenger side window mechanism and long story short had removed the motor and regulator and propped the window up with a plank of wood. How I laughed........

The drivers side works fine as does all the other bits and bobs both sides. I am trying to source a replacement motor for the passenger side but have no part number to start from. I spoke to the main dealer who quoted 6Y2959801 SK1 (original) and SK4 (revised). He actually said K1 and K4 but added the S after a bit of discussion.

My drivers side motor is present and has a part number of 6Y2959802 SK240DDRS

I've searched the second hand market but there does not appear to be a visual way to see if a part is SK1/SK4 or otherwise. Is that a red herring or significant part of the part identification ? I have seen some suppliers stating that the chips inside are very model specific.

Once I have a part I'll have a starting point to work out what else reveals itself as not working !!

Any advice would be most welcome.

Regards

Dave

  • Pete's service is highly recommended!   Our 2007 Roomster suffered from intermittent windows for approx. 2 years. Dealers could not find the problem. It's not easy to diagnose the fault

  • If anyone is being put off the idea of using this service due to the 'downtime' or inconvenience of having to visit the car twice, once to remove the module, once a few days later to refit the repaire

Hi Dave, thanks for posting.

Yes, that 6Y2959801 part number is what you need.

The SK1/SK4 is only ever visible in parts catalogue and on the box label of a brand new motor.

The key requirement for you is that the motor you buy should be from RHD mk1 Fabia.

This will be ensured by matching both the first and last line of the main PN label.

So 6Y2959801 first, and SK240PDRS last.

The actual software version (SK1 or 4) is not critical (and not easily determined AFAIK).

Thanks Pete, your wise words are appreciated. Experience has taught me to be as precise as possible with matching parts up but as always there's a fine line between being precise and over thinking it !

I shall now have the knowledge and confidence to put my best foot forward.

Thank you

Dave

@Breezy_Pete I think I am in need of your service to fix my window motor.

Just tried to message you, but it says my account is too new. In short, my front electric windows in my 2007 mk2 Fabia have stopped working. I can get them working if I disconnect the door loom, but after about 10 minutes they stop again. I have opened the door card and seen my driver's motor is the 6Y1959801 model. I have a photo of this as well. Worried about spending too much money on ebay for one out of a VW that may not work correctly. Are you able to help?

Let me know if you need any more info and hopefully, you might be able to send me a message about this.

Thanks

T

Hi Pete I have a Skoda Roomster 08 plate window problem. They work then stop working until I pull both fuses then work again been going on for years. I haven't took door card off yet but is this a motor problem you can fix.

Cheers Ade

Hi Ade, messaging you now.

Hi,

I have a window lift module that is not working, something you can help me with, Vw Polo 2005 , 6Y2959802, central locking and window lift do not work on LF, I changed the module and tested it from RF in lift LF, then central locking and window lift VF work, but only for a while, if I lock the car with central locking in the door it works again for a while.

Hello Briskodians,

I would like to offer a repair service for some types of electric window motor module as fitted to a few Skoda models, as well as one or two VWs.

At this stage it applies only to two specific, exact part numbers fitted to the driver's side front door, as follows:

6Y2959802  Fitted to later Mk1 Fabia, from around October 2004.

6Y1959801  Fitted to Very early Mk2 Fabia and Roomster until end of October 2007; as well as 9N3 Polo and a few Transporters. (And some late 9N Polos I have learned).

Private Message me a VIN if you'd like me to check whether your car has this part number fitted.

(As described a few posts below, either of the above part numbers + suffix A on the end can also be repaired.  Also happy to try with units of the subsequent generation, with part numbers 6Q1959801F, G, H, or J.)

Note that both of these are driver's side units, the difference in part numbering is due to the orientation/positioning of the motor module on the panels they mount to.

These parts suffer a type of intermittent, progressive failure where they 'sometimes work fine, sometimes don't work at all'.  Eventually they just completely stop working.

This is what I can fix for you.

I will test your faulty unit, confirm the problem, repair it to full working order and post it back to you for £59, total.

You'd post it to me - less than 1Kg so can be sent for around £4.25 on a tracked24 service purchased online at Royal Mail.   I would aim to turn it round within 2 days of receipt, and send it back tracked24.

This is the what the part looks like:

Central locking via remote will still work in the absence of the window module, so you will be able to secure the car as normal while it is away.

Obviously you'll want to ensure that both front windows are fully shut, as in the absence of the driver's side module the passenger side one will not operate.

New units are no longer available from Skoda/VW, and ebay 2nd hand ones with these part numbers tend to go for big bucks.

I will charge you just £59 including return postage.

Cheers,

Pete

Hi Teddy, thanks for posting. It used to be a bit easier, as newly signed-up people could send private messages, but that seems to have gone with the recent forum software update. Now you have to make a number of posts before PM'ing becomes possible.

I see you managed to track down my email address that lurks in my profile; well done.

I'm probably going to become a forum sponsor in the very near future, which will allow me to advertise my services and contact details more obviously. 🙂

Hi Pete

I came across this site and your posts by chance while searching the net for a certain part after trying to fix the problem myself and then letting my mechanic try and he stated it was the only part left to try to either fix or replace?

The windows in my 2006 Skoda Fabia mk1 stopped working last autumn. I thought it be a simple thing to fix after trying various tips and tricks from YouTube which only worked for a short time.

I replaced the switches on the drivers door ( Part number and pins were an identical match ) - nothing

Took it to my mechanic in early Spring. He checked the wiring from the door and the fuses - found no faults on either

He suggested the door motor

I bought one from a website second hand from a clone of my car in every detail...only to be told when fitting it......it was for the wrong side. Thankfully i was able to send it back and get a refund.

I trawled the net and ebay and after weeks of trying did come across the part that matched but the cost........for a second hand part......gulp!

Then i found this site and your good self and the amazing work you do to get em fixed and at a very reasonable cost.

I am hoping you still do the fixing of the door motor ??

I also read on here that this particular part is no longer made as of last year ?

Any help or advice would be a monumental help as having no working windows in this heat of late has been a living nightmare.
