It looks like a one lane track, a faster Hungaroring if you like, but I think overtaking will be a major issue. If only Assen had won the Dutch GP?

At least Pirelli have brought tires that can survive the banking, unlike Michelin at Indy 2005, but 6 red flags during yesterday's programme doesnt really bode well for todays main event.

After watching the race i thought there was a good deal of overtakes and mainly round the outside of the corners.

Huge credit to the circuit redesigners with all 3 tyres ie C1 to C3 being of good use during the GP.

Alonso passing one of the Ferraris on the last lap was a highlight for me.

All I would say is that it needs another mile or so of track so there is not so much blue flag usage.

Onboard Alonso overtakes Sainz on final lap: formula1

Just watched the feature race. The team whose driver is always hyper aggressive on lap 1 are seemingly very upset that it didn't go all his way this time. Maybe he shouldn't run the opposition off or

Better racing than expected sure, and I agree it's too short a track, but someone built a Center Parcs on the old high speed return loop...

Bottas signs for Alfa.

Why would you do that?

When you get binned from a top team and no other top team wants you, why would you? Nothing against Sauber as such, but they have won just one GP in 29 seasons.

Another question. Why would they want #77, who's been made to look increasingly ordinary at AMG - Mercedes the last few years?

If they offered me the money, I could use the exercise.

I'm generally happy only getting to watch highlights.. means I watch mostly interesting bits, largely avoiding tedium.

Watched about half hour of highlights yesterday before going and finding something else to do.

Just googled to confirm who I suspected won.... no interest in that race at all.

Agree it lacked excitement.  Nieuw Zandvoort is more of a go-kart track than F1. At least it went ahead, Some favourite circuits due soon have cancelled, Singapore, Suzuka, Melbourne, Istanbul?

Official FIA F1 site shows all cancelled except Istanbul? But Turkey is a red list country.

How does that make Singapore and/or Istanbul Park one of my favourite circuits?

I really did wonder about the meaning of your post Jock. Thanks for clearing it up 😉

The Engl British Broadcasting Corporation were talking about "2 Britons driving for a German team"; so "German" they're based in Brackley, and their title sponsor is a Malaysian company!

And their engine department was ILMOR another "British" firm.

Mind you, the Austrian F1 team is based in Milton Keynes, the French F1 team in Enstone etc etc.

Great day for Max. After not being fastest in qually, and not winning the Sprint race, he still somehow gets credited with pole position, and looks on for an easy win tomorrow...well not as easy as the Belgian one but whatever, his momentum toward the title is undeniable.

While he will ‘sit’ on pole, he only inherited it because of Bottas’ grid penalty, a real tough call for Bottas.  I suppose he has the moral victory though, and no doubt Alfa will have noticed (as will Mercedes...)

Yes, as long as there is no mental pressure on Bottas he's very fast. Maybe Alfa should only enter one car next year so he won't always be worrying about his team-mate.

He is, I read, hacked off at not being credited with this pole today mind you.

Wow. Washed up driver leads washed up team 1-2 at GP. Well done McLaren.

Well done also Halo designer and legislators. Max's wheel hit Hamilton's head in their shunt, and he's not seriously hurt or worse.

3 grid place penalty for Max next race.  Are they saying he should have completely yielded, his front axle was in front of Lewis's rear axle and Lewis did not give him any room, should Max have taken the obvious escape road and re-joined behind and probably not been able to overtake ?

With the penalty only 3 places and Russia being the next race then Valteri could be very important to Lewis's chances of regaining points.

Well done McLaren, as a Renault/Alpine fan it hurst to say they made the right choice going with the Mercedes engine.  Well done Alonso, still a class act at a difficult track for Alpine.

Max said himself "I hit the sausage kerb, and that threw me into Lewis", which sounds rather like getting off lightly when he's confessed his guilt.

Surprising stewards decision, the driver steward was an ex-RedBull F1 driver!

Mind you Max only has to run him off 8 more times and he'll be champion by 5 points.

What I found disgusting about the whole thing was:

 - Car was obviously up in the air and yet the red bull wheels can be seen to turn.
(Assuming you know you're up in the air, that's quite a risk of injury to those below - although I could put that down to trying to automatic reactions.)

 - Looking at the state of the cars, surely any decent human being would at least walk towards the other driver and make sure they can get out of the car/wait for stewards to be with the car

It's all well and good saying he looked fine, but you have two crashed cars, severe damage to both and a driver in a car. Fuel/electrical fires can still happen and whilst you might both be angry, you'd hope neither wants the other gone for good.

I do wonder if you should just put the two of them in a boxing ring and tell them to fight the championship out there.
