2019 Skoda Scala 1.0 dsg

Featured Replies

Hi,

I looked at a November 2019 registered Scala 1.0 dsg, it's an SE model and put a deposit down on it today.

No test drives and dealership wouldnt open the car due to Covid, not allowed under law aparently.

Car has just 23 miles on it, the problem I noticed was all the dashboard warning lights were on even though the key was out of the ignition and the car was locked.

Spoke to the dealer who told me it's because the battery is flat as a pancake, he phoned me when I got home and said that after I left he went out with a jump starter pack and the Scala fired up right away.

the warning lights are back on though as I popped back round to the dealer after it was closed for another look.

what do you think, sounds like a short somewhere like the ignition switch or do you think it's the low voltage from the dead battery causing the issue?

interested in anyone that has had a similar experience, the car has been sitting for over a year, it has green algae growing on it.

If the garage is serious ask them to put in a new fully charged battery and reset the electrics . Old school cars you would be lucky to get an ignition light on let alone a full dashboard full. Cant help feeling there is some more than a flat battery. My friend had a similar problem when he changed his battery on his Polo had to get it rigged up to a VW computer and do a software reset.

@lockesboy  Welcome to the forum.

Is this a 'Skoda Approved Used Car' from a Skoda Main Dealership with the remainder of the Manufacturers Warranty / 12 months, or are you getting a 24 month warranty.

The car might have only 23 miles on it, but other than registered in 2019, when was it built?

Time it gets an oil and filter change if that oil is going to be a year or 2 old.

How long did it sit before registration?

A new battery should be part of the deal also.

Hi guys, yes it's an approved used vehicle with the balance of the 3 year warranty. First registered 12/2019 so just over 1 year old.I reckon it's been sitting since 1st registered....its like new with green algae all over it, mostly the bumpers, bottom of the windows and so on...getting it £9,500.00 under it's new list price. I'm sure it'll be ok once it's been through the workshop and a good pressure wash on the outside...

I would probe for its history before commitment.

I think Covid got in the way, the car never sold, that's its history..

if its been stood for a long time the alarm system can drain the battery if he just jump started and not run the car for a few miles it would not get enough charge so go flat again

Hi, that's what I'm thinking,

The condition of the discs and pads are worth checking with the car having sat so long since delivery and the PDI.

Maybe it will get an Italian Tune up to clean off any cosmetic rust if that is all they have.

If the car was set to Fixed Servicing of 372 days / 9,400 miles then it is due a service which includes a Oil & Filter change even if the car has done only 23 miles.

Or especially since it has done only 23 miles since the car was reset from 'Transit mode'.

Hi, the discs are ok, there is hardly any corrosion at all, in fact I was surprised to see how good they were, the calipers are fine too, I'm trying to work out how to upload pictures on here, as we all like good pics to go along with a story ...

The 1.0 TSI DSG is a decent engine / gearbox combo. Bit of lag when pulling off in a hurry but dropping the gearbox into 'S' mode remedies this.

Sounds like your new car will be fine after a full battery charge and wash. Also worth getting your dealer to make sure all software updates have been done as there have been recalls, particularly with the e-call system.  Dealer service departments are open.

Hi, I took a drive down to the dealership after 6pm, the car must be in the workshop as it isn't anywhere to be seen, yes I think it will be ok, thanks for your message,  apologies for my late response.

Kind regards
