To add to the confusion regarding map update on T-roc 2020 fitted with MIB3 , just got my car back today from VW main dealer who checked my problem not being able to update maps plus not being able to update radio station art, their official answer was you cant !!!!
the maps are continuously updated over the air by the built in e sim and no you cant update the radio icons they were not sure why.

  • FInally     Just updated my Bolero MY21 (H22 0270) with new navigation database (yes, bolero MY21 has it).    Instructions EXACTLY as I've posted above:   1) Download zip

  • This Cubic esim has nothing to do with car`s services. It is only and only to create hotspot in the car. All the other services - map updates, weather, gas prices etc. will reach the car via buil

  • Exactly  Some people reported that update takes more that one our.  But interface is awful. While update you cant understand is it in process or not. You just need to keep head unit on for some time (

Looks like same as yours

Very strange than. What about trying another USB port in car and unzip from another PC (and another flash drive  )? (I know it's quite strange advice...)

Perfect instruction. Thanks!

Except that I did not click on "Software update".

I think the problem will be with what linni quoted...this is the new MIB3, without any physical buttons, so must be a different version to yours and they turned off the updates...my dealer told me the same...there is no integrated DB of the maps in the headunit anymore, everything is download using the e-sim or Wifi connection (if you have)...this would make sense as we just had a new highway opened recently (2-3 months ago) and it`s already visible within the navigation...so looks like it`s pulling the maps from the net....which is actually not a bad thing

Yes, I've seen that. I think they're correct that the MIB3 systems will only display radio logos that they can capture from the radio station's data transmission, but I'm hoping that they're wrong about the map updates since it seems like a typical dealer response to something they don't understand. And is in conflict with what some people have managed to do.

I've also seen a statement that a system software update is coming, but delayed by covid.

Yeah, bit strange because the instructions are for MIB3. There might be several SW revisions since the MIB3 came to market.

It's supposed to do that for local maps, but doesn't help me when I'm driving to Zell am See in Austria on holiday (as I did a couple of years ago) and want up to date maps for my journey through Belgium and Germany!

No!

Look here

Same columbus without physical buttons. And I know another user with MIB3 Columbus from Ukrane (H22 0270) who successfully update map database.

Yeah, maybe. But all headunits with H22 hardware shows "0270" as software version. In all countries :)

Should still work for whole Europe through the e-sim connection...I just tried to navigate to Helsinki :-) from Slovakia...and it was working ok....than I tried South Croatia, still showing without any problems

What I meant was that in the beinning MIB3 could have an option in the menu "update software" but later it was replaced with fully automatic procedure.

Agree it will have the maps for the journey, at v 19.11 for me. But to download the updates required for the whole journey will need a lot of data to be downloaded surely?

May be academic for this year, I suppose. But the same principle follows for journeys to Ipswich or Sterling which I doubt are being updated as part of my 'local region'?

Yes. You're right. Please post here if you'll find newer instruction. Thanks :)

Yeh, I'll be taking mine for its weekly drive tomorrow, and have the prepped USB stick plugged in to see what happens :)

you also have the MIB3? without physical buttons

I have a MIB3 Amundsen, so with a button at each side, but definitely the MIB3 software! With all the usual problems about missing radio logos etc :(

Chris

The procedure didn't work for me either, despite my hopes.

Went for a succession of 20+ minute drives, but a hard reset at the end still left me on version 19.11. Perhaps it couldn't restart from where it left off? But I won't be making any longer journeys for awhile, so will have to wait and sea what others discover.

Chris

My try is currently in progress...had mz car now for 30 minutes with ignition turned on...will leave it for another hour or so and do the hard reset....USB stick with the latest map in the USB-C port next to the DSG

No luck :-( still the same version

My USB drive is setup FAT32.  I thought these systems could only read FAT32?

No, they can read NTFS formatted media, and it was NTFS formatting I used when my maps updated from USB-C.

According to my owner's manual, my MIB3 Amundsen can read VFAT, FAT16, FAT32, exFAT & NTFS (Windows) or HFS+ (Mac).

According to previously attached VW update manual the drive must be formatted to NTFS. Makes no sense why not FAT, but that`s what they have put down.

I left my usb key ntfs formatted always connected, but no luck.

Tried with NTFS, FAT32...no luck unfortunately

Have you done a reset of the head unit by long pressing the on/off button for ~ 10s?
