Delivery times?

Featured Replies

Afternoon all. So after speaking with Skoda just now, to enquire as to why I still haven’t been allocated a build week, I’ve been told that “there have been production cuts on the Octavia model which has led to extended lead times for those cars, so we expect your car will get a build week assigned in a few weeks.”
I’m gutted, but I’m also wondering whether the issues around the infotainment system and the possibly some incoming  remedies to the final few glitches may be responsible for the slowing of production?
At least that’s how I’m consoling myself. 🤣🤣🤣

  • Well 13.5 months waiting and I finally collected my Octy Estate vRS yesterday. I couldn't be happier  👍😀

  • After 13 months waiting my SEL iV Plug in Hybrid arrived.    All seems good with it so far, just to understand some of the infotainment features!

  • Just took delivery of mine but had to cancel some of the optional extras

They're still talking apparently - Skoda UK sales are talking to Skoda Europe who are talking to the factory - hoping to have some news tomorrow (still gutting to see people placing orders this month getting ETAs months in advance of mine but there you go...)

Spec was fairly standard - TSi hatch, DSG with the Reversing Camera and Rear Wiper as the only options (in Metallic Grey)

**** I forgot to add rear wiper! No way am I adding it now, as that will likely increase wait times, but kicking myself a bit. I read about it before ordering too and just forgot 😶

Who knows man. Within another thread an article it linked to suggested the Octavia just crept in to the top 10 of most purchased cars of 2020 in Europe (or was it UK?), so demand doesn't feel like an issue. "Production cuts" could be related to this: https://www.skoda-auto.com/news/news-detail/covid-testing , which like everywhere else suggests newer measures of working to prevent rona spreading. Or could be related to the cycles of the moon!

It used to be standard in the UK, wasn't it? Only when looking at the configurator of the MK4 I noticed it's a free option... why put it as an option if it's free??

I've driven Octavia 2 hatchback without a rear wiper. Not great, not terrible... used the rear window heating a lot. :)

Yeah who knows? Sounds like first world problems, but I just hate this part of ordering a new car, once you’ve committed to it, it’s difficult to forget about it until it arrives. 🤯

But I absolutely get the reality of the world so it’s understandable, and I have two choices, suck it up, or start searching for stock cars that are here or are en route.
The assigned build week will confirm which way I end up going. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I cancelled my order today. Never received a build week despite placing order 4th December. Been a bit put off by these teething problems with the infotainment of all seemingly all VAG cars being released at the moment.

Don’t blame you pal, that’s too long to wait, especially when others seem to be getting build weeks. I’m starting to look at Plan B’s now and will maybe give it another couple of weeks before making a decision.

Received my holding deposit back. They cancelled the order with absolutely no pushback (it was a distance sale so they had no choice). Did make me wonder though, did they know it was a long way off being fulfilled? Or perhaps too good a deal (I didn’t think so personally).

Have placed an order for a V60 I should get next month. Time will tell if I regret it as I was looking forward to the Octavia.

I would like to say all what happens happens for a reason, i would pick v60 over octavia any day, but it is over my budget.
good luck.

My order hasn't been accepted by the factory, which is now closed. I

That’s some wait, but I’m sure it’ll be well worth it. 👍🏼👍🏼

Congrats! The last few days are the hardest.

It will be interesting to see what device part number your car will have.

I contacted Skoda UK yesterday with the customer number my lease agent gave me.  They said that the ordered hadn't been accepted by the factory yet, nd due to Covid-19 the factory is currently closed.

I was talking to Skoda customer services through the online chat earlier today (checking the leasing broker had placed my order) and was told the current lead time is 24 weeks... VRS TSI hatch, manual in meteor. Only option is the rear wiper.

Sounds like the 24 weeks will only increase if the factory is closed!

It's very interesting reading.

Here an Article in Czech dated yesterday with the head of Skoda says they don't plan on closing the plant even for Easter as to do so would cause delays in production, and a possible spike in cases as people would interact with those outside their immediate family.

It takes 3 days wind down the plant apparently.

He does acknowledge the global chip shortage as having an impact.

When I ordered my car with a good number of optional extras I was informed of a 12-16 week wait, assuming the factory didn't suffer a mass outbreak of Covid.

Will it be annoying if it's delayed a few weeks more, slightly yes, but on the other hand it could turn the Irish reg plate from a late 211 to a early 212 so its a case of swings and roundabouts, but I may contact my dealer next week to see if theres a build week update.

My build week supposed to be week 13, which is next week.. and now this

Just talked to my dealer:
'Skoda factory now is running in two shifts to deliver'
I guess either dealers are not informed or usual- internet is lying.

It is not just the main assembly factory you need to consider

As an example suppose a factory making a particular engine size, or another component used in some cars has a closure, then might still be building some cars, but not certain models or specs.

Unlikely to affect next few days assembly, but there could be components due to be used in April that are in a container, which is now stuck in Suez, if that goes on, could heavily affect production in few weeks time.

You also have to consider possible problems in Germany (Emden etc), could slow delivery once built

Are these facts or speculations?

I spoke to them last Friday regarding my unallocated build week. There was no mention of Factory closures, but they did refer to a reduction in production.
Not sure why they used such abrasive language, intimating that your order had been rejected🤣🤣

Think we’re all in the dark until we get a build week or delivery date.
Anything else is speculation and conjecture, even from Skoda when you ring them, those guys are only working with sound bites and messages they’ve been coached to tell you, unless they have a factual update (build week / delivery date).
I’ll need to make a decision soon though because my current lease goes back end of April. 🤯🤯

I'm still waiting for the results of Skoda UK talking to the factory to try and work out why my lead time went from 16 weeks to 50 weeks to 18 weeks to 52 weeks to 46 weeks and the latest is 29 weeks (build date week 27). There doesn't seem to be any pattern as to what models are being prioritised, or whether any specific option is leading to a delay (I thought they were prioritising hybrids over TSi to meet CO2 targets but see that someone has been waiting since before I ordered for a hybrid, whereas other hybrid orders placed in January are already delivered!). I almost wish this forum wasn't here - then at least I'd be in blissful ignorance :)
