A suitable map to run in? Thats still going to be around 300bhp isn't it?

As I won't be able to rev it particularly high whilst running in then the power doesn't really matter. I expect it'll be set to around 1bar which would mean power would be well into the 300's.

How will you cope with such a small amount of power?

The self control needed will be huge - good luck being restrained!

That's gonna be the big downside to getting my car back. I can see alot of pointless journeys ahead just to get it run in asap.

Just get out for a mega long drive up to Scotland this weekend say John O'Groats and then you could stop in my place for a spot of lunch on the way home and by that time it'll be just about the K mark!:D

I'll even throw in a bed breakfast and evening meal for you if you wanna make a weekend of it

Ha ha i've been watching this thread with great interest since the start and i hope in reality it is as good as it sound in theory mate.

Hope you are full of :D 's

That'd be very tempting but I doubt it'll be quite ready for this weekend, then next weekend it's GTI International.

Just had a call this morning to confirm what colour hoses I would like, I was torn being standard looking black or blue to match the existing IC pipework. I decided to go with Blue. It all sounds to be progressing nicely, they will also be fitting my diesel geek short shift assuming I can get it from Parcel Force in time.

Hope its finished in time for GTI international then i can come over and have a look at it on the JBS stand:D

It'll definetely be at GTI international, just not sure if it will be run in.

shame if its not so you can get some sort of times down on the strip / track... anyway it'll be good just to get your hands on it again i'm sure.

deffinitely sounds like its progressing nicely, i'm surprised at how quickly they have done the conversion to be honest. very good work by the sounds of it.

Very, very impressive, Eddy.

Will there be pictures and - preferably - movies when the work is done? I'd like to hear the sound of that!

Pictures - Yes.

Movies - I'll see what I can do.

so mid 300 hp until it's run in then you need to take it back for full tweaking for the 400-500???

When its run in you will have to take it on one of the PVW days at bruntingthorpe when they have the timing gear out so you can try to get in there hall of fame:thumbup: and it would be a good oportunity to do some vids too:D

I expect boost will be increased in stages (say a few psi at a time) just to make sure everything copes. The map will be developed over time with input from me and will also be tweaked when I add water injection in the future. Also of course I'll make sure to keep everyone upto date with how it progresses.

Sounding good Eddy, looking forward to seeing the result. I take it James is banned from driving it, I don't think hes ever seen the low side of 4000 rpm!

very wise decision, seen lots of blown engines in the past with impatient R5 GTT boys getting to eagar to soon.

i suppose spending the money you have has made helped with the restraint.

Any day now! There's been a slight hold up sorting the boost hoses and also a larger turbo than the one shown in the previous photo's has now been installed which required a couple of further tweaks to fit.

The ceramic coating of the manifold has been scrapped due to problems on the test manifold so instead my new manifold has been ported and polished.

God I bet you cant wait to have it back!

Good luck and let us know how it goes. :)

I'll be collecting on Friday all being well. The car will valeted including the engine bay steam cleaned for when I collect. Boost will be set at around 1bar for the running in period and I hope to be back at JBS the week after to have the oil changed after bedding in the new engine.

Unfortunately there's some sort of problem with the gallery so I can't add any more pics for this thread.

So, have you got it back yet?? Are we going to see it at international ??
