Skoda Felicia Engine Swap to comply with London ULEZ

Featured Replies

Hello guys,

Mate of mine is selling a Skoda Felicia pickup 1.9tdi, thinking of buying it for a project.

As I live in London and in a area that the Ultra low emission zone will cover later on the year, i was wondering what would be the best option of an engine swap that complies with the ULEZ.

Has anyone ever done a engine swap of golf mk4 or polo? Preferably petrol engine

What are the options out there?

Thank you

I don't think this can be done, because you won't have or readily get (short of an IVA) a Euro 4 or later engine rating.

Simply slipping in a modern engine will not automatically make it Euro compliant, unless it is an engine that is included in the Felicia pickup type approval (none of which are Euro 4 compliant petrol or Euro 6 diesel) you will need to have it type approved and tested to an applicable Euro standards at a test house that is certified to carry out such testing. Then convince DVLA to change section D2 of the V5 document to show Euro compliance and or emission data, again doubtful as they dont fill that in for old vehicles.

Dont forget that you will need an Euro compliant ECU with all the looms, fuseboxes, an instrument cluster with appropriate emission warning lights, CAT, DPF and possibly SCR (if diesel), EVAP system, and numerous other sensors and emission control devices.

And in the end, I suspect ULEZ will simply look at date of first registration and say no.

Before you even start, contact ULEZ and ask if this is even possible and what evidence is required. You may then need to contact DVLA and DVSA and seek their opinion.

Simply slipping in a modern engine................  :D:D:D

Only if you are McGyver :)

Not taking the mickey out of you Xman but it just made me laugh, I come from an age and had the skills where that once would have been a simple task to me, those days are long gone sadly.

Actually fitting the engine would be the simple part compared to all the other stuff that you go on to list.

There is one engine that is relatively easy fit - Fabia 1.4 MPi - Euro 4 compliant, very similar to 1.3MPI, similar injection system, although it's need modifications.

Also, engines used in VW Lupo should be relatively easy mechanically. But wiring will be different story.

The 1.4 MPI engine is not ULEZ Compliant in the UK IIRC. :)

ULEZ is Euro 4 for petrol, right? But it depends on variant, there are 6 variants (I think), only two being Euro 4 .

I have been enlightened. The Fabia is good for London's ULEZ but there's still the congestion charge, should I have understood that correctly. The reg is just a random one off a car I saw for sale.

If it's as easy as testing for emissions superceding euro (something) install lpg and strap on two catalytic converters then your 1.3mpi will become euro 5
