Enable Ambient light menu with VCDS

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have a 2016 Superb and I wonder what are the steps to Enable the Ambient light menu in VCDS.

I also want to mention that I have the Footwell lights menu and I want to enable the ambient light menu for a retrofit.

Can someone help with what values I need to change in Channel 09 or 5F ?

@SashaGrace can you help please?😁

This would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance!

Thank you @ApertureS! :D

I followed the steps and I've got some things enabled and it looks like it's gonna work but there is something that it's blocking me.

I've managed to enable the Dashboard and Footwell selectors (I only wanted these two) but it looks like it's only the brightness slider active.

How can I enable the color dropdown that should be in the top right of the screen near the back button?

What are the settings that needs attention in adaptions that are controlling that colored dropdown?

Thanks!

IIRC, having a slider to enable a full range of colours can’t be done, but I believe you can change the three available settings to different colours within VCDS.

MY15 and MY16 models are restricted to 3 colours only.

MY17 onwards came with the 10 colours, and u can use VCDS/OBDEleven to increase that 30 colours.

the hardware is different, hence u can't go from 3 to 10 (or 30) colour version with just coding.

VCDS - > Customize colour of ambient lighting
Controller 09 - Central Electronics
16 - Security Access - enter 31347
10 - Adaptations
To change the 1st colour (warm white):
(31)-Int. light; 2nd generation-Rotwert Farbe 1 (currently160)
(32)-Int. light; 2nd generation-Gruenwert Farbe 1 (currently 167)
(33)-Int. light; 2nd generation-Blauwert Farbe 1 (currently 18)
(To change the green or blue then do the same but for ‘Farbe 2 & 3)
The colours can be varied from 0 to 255, the defaults are (Red / Green / Blue):
1st colour (warm white): 160 / 167 / 18 -->> orangered: 255 / 69 / 0
2nd colour (green): 58 / 245 / 4
3rd colour (Blue): 20 / 170 / 254

@numskullyou missunderstood, I don't want the color slider, I want the color dropdown that has the 3 colors in it that is in the top right of the screen. I want to know how to enable it because it's missing from my screen.

@JR RSI know that, thanks. I just want to enable the color dropdown, not the color slider.

@MartiniBThank you but I already did that.

My problem is that the color dropdown is missing (I'll mark it on your picture below and you can make the difference that is missing in my previous post) and my question is how do I enable that dropdown that contains the colors I've set in the channels you've mentioned?

Thank you very much @MartiniB!! I will give it a try :D

@MartiniB It worked!!🥳

My bad was that I had the IDE09732-ENG115870-Interior light: light configuration-Ambiente_Applikationsleisten_in_Instrumententafel not active and what was turning the color list off was that Ambient_Farbliste_HMI was active.

Thank you so much!!

I'll attach some photos:

Then 3 can be extended to 6?

  • Author

@MartiniB yes.

IDE11477-ENG128654-Interior lighting: parameter-p_farbauswahl_HMI is responsible for the color number in the dropdown.

I had the value 07 (00000111 - only 3 colors enabled) in my channel and I've changed it to 7F (01111111).

I tried this because I thought that maybe I could add a 7th color.

I think the correct value should be 3F (for 6 colors) but I haven't tried it yet.

I saw that you have the value 19 (00011001) in this channel. You could try with 3F or 7F too and see if it will enable the others.

These are the values that can be entered in there as I know:

00000001 - Warm White
00000010 - White
00000100 - Red
00001000 - Green
00010000 - Blue
00100000 - Turquoise
01000000 - Did not add another color
10000000 - Did not add another color

Use this conversion table as an example: https://kb.iu.edu/d/afdl

Let me know if it works 😁

Nice work 🤝to you both

Brilliant work; I’ll have to have a go at this! Wonder way weren’t they programmed with 6 options from the factory? Weird…

Weird…

maybe because VAG hierarchy,
shared components are primarily developed for Audi; VW and just years later adapted for Škoda; Seat

choice list does extend,

but colors are changed only in head unit screen not on LED strips 😞

That's a bit odd. Maybe there are other things that needs coding in order to apply the new colors.
So if you've had selected Turquoise, what color are the LED strips?

first, Warm white

I saw in your scan that the other colors are by default E1 (Hex = 225)

Try and modifiy the values below by setting another RGB code combination and see if that works.

For example, if you want to set color #4 to Magenta try these values: RGB(255, 0, 252). Use this tool to see what values do you need for other colors. https://www.rgbtohex.net/

As I know, the color name will remain the same in the dropdown list, only the color output will be the one that you will set.

You can give it a try, maybe it will work.

Ambient light color list:
            Rotwert Farbe 4:
                E1
            Gruenwert Farbe 4:
                E1
            Blauwert Farbe 4:
                E1
            Rotwert Farbe 5:
                E1
            Gruenwert Farbe 5:
                E1
            Blauwert Farbe 5:
                E1
            Rotwert Farbe 6:
                E1
            Gruenwert Farbe 6:
                E1
            Blauwert Farbe 6:
                E1
            Rotwert Farbe 7:
                E1
            Gruenwert Farbe 7:
                E1
            Blauwert Farbe 7:
                E1
            Rotwert Farbe 8:
                E1
            Gruenwert Farbe 8:
                E1
            Blauwert Farbe 8:
                E1
            Rotwert Farbe 9:
                E1
            Gruenwert Farbe 9:
                E1
            Blauwert Farbe 9:
                E1
            Rotwert Farbe 10:
                E1
            Gruenwert Farbe 10:
                E1
            Blauwert Farbe 10:
                E1

Try and modifiy the values below

tested just with these

Rotwert Farbe 4
Gruenwert Farbe 4
Blauwert Farbe 4
set all E1 to 55, none visible changes found

p.s.

crossing fingers, that were the last experiment with MY16, it's going to new owner today

  • Author

I don't think that will work with 55.

55 is 85 in HEX which 85,85,85 is a grayish color. The RGB led is not capable of that.

After you use that RGB to HEX converter you will have to use the table conversion in order to convert to the correct values. https://kb.iu.edu/d/afdl (Mentioned this one in a previous post).

The example that I gave you with Magenta RGB(255, 0, 252), is the normal code color.

That means Magenta (255, 0, 252) is (FF, 00, FC) in HEX.

More specific:

Rotwert Farbe 4 - FF

Gruenwert Farbe 4 - 0 or 00
Blauwert Farbe 4 - FC

You can also try with the normal code (255, 0, 252), I saw that may differ from car to car on what types of values do they accept.

Some nice infos about the colors:

https://www.drive2.ru/l/566377681994648900/

https://www.drive2.ru/l/594415778258794719/

Oh, what will be the next one? Is it a newer Superb?😁
