Octavia iV reversing camera retrofit service!

Featured Replies

After receiving three negative answers from different Skoda dealerships following my requests for reversing camera installation offers, I searched for an alternate solution. I found a small company specialized in VAG retrofits and I have an appointment with them at noon tomorrow for the installation (price ~550 Euro). They claim it's an original VAG camera; how can I make sure it really is? The price is significantly higher than yours, but you are a bit too far from me @East_Yorkshire_Retrofits 😉
Any tips for what should I keep my eyes on, or what to check during/after the installation? You can imagine I'm quite stressed - the car being 1 month old...

It takes us around 2.5-3 hours    It's a genuine camera, it integrates with the vehicle electronics as if it was factory fit

You don't have to use an SVM adapation document   It just means if the Canbus gateway or the infotainment unit is returned to the factory configuration by a dealer for any reason then you'll

Easiest way to tell once installed is just by the output on screen. Take a picture of that and the camera itself 🙂

Ok...
So far, so good! The reversing camera is installed and working. Those guys moved quite fast - less than 2,5 hours in total: about 45 min. for physical installation and wiring + similar time for coding (I was starting to worry it took so long!) + some more time to calibrate the lines and put all the plastics in place. From the trunk door and through the left rubber tube, they guided the cables above the roof liner on the left of the car - just above the doors - and went down through the left A-pilar. After removing the plastics left of the footrest (that's a RHD car) they accessed the connectors where the reversing camera was plugged; and one more connector somewhere under the steering column, above the brake pedal.
They said everything is coded with the factory; I guess I'll have to wait for a major update to be sure about that 😉.
They didn't want to code for me VRS cockpit theme, or Lane Assist to "Last setting", even though I had the code lines. They said they only do retrofits, but do not want to change factory settings... as if coding the camera was not changing the factory settings.

Hi,

Has any of you the dealer offered to install the original rear view camera? Unfortunately, this extra was removed from my car due to delivery issues.
As far as I looked on google, no one in my country offers such a service.

Dealers are unable to install it, as there's no official kit available from Skoda

Once this Retro fit camera is installed, is that the Warranty of the car finished?

I would not have thought so(as long as it is fitted correctly)and if you have a fault with the camera side of things thats

down to the Fitter to sort it.

I have just had one fitted, but I was having some warranty work done and mentioned about having the camera fitted

and they said that was fine.

Hello,

I will post my experience with the local delaer in Romania - best would be to ask first.

As mentioned by others, when I ordered my Octavia in Jan/Feb 2022, there was no reverse camera option for the Style variant, either by itself or as part of a promo package, like it is now. I could have gotten a reverse camera only if upgrading to Sportline or RS.

As a sidenote, I remember I could add the 360° camera option to the Style, for a very unwhorthy price.

Going back to the story, ordered the car without the camera. In March, when recieving notice about the delivery I contacted the dealer and asked if they would mont an aftermarket camera, they said yes.

So I ordered one from Poland, because the vendor in RO (for the same very camera) was out of stock.

The camera was mounted and wired by the Skoda dealer, under warranty and with an invoice to prove it, but they didn't calibrate or configure it because, and I quote, "they don't do VCDS instalations, only original factory software 😞 .

So I went to the guys that do retrofitting here (the company that sold the camera as in Poland) and had it calibrated and configured in about 25'

The camera code is

1EA980556F or 5E3827566A

The company selling it in Poland is here, https://www.carsystems.eu/skoda-octavia-nx-4-gen-rear-high-line-camera-kit-retrofit,id4054.html

and the one in Romania posted here, IDK if they re-ship overseas

https://m.olx.ro/d/oferta/camera-video-marsalier-high-originala-audi-q4-audi-a3-8y-octavia-mk4-IDgxyf0.html?reason=seller_listing|olx_shop_basic

allegedly and most likely, the harware is sourced from the Czech Republic, and it would seem likely that it would less expensive, but I was too lazy to search.

Beware, it is NOT an original camera, but close enough. The wiring it came with, on the other hand was full of VAG labels

The model I found also has a washer hole or something, that is useless for me as I dont have a wiper in the back.

So my advice is that you talk first to both the retrofit company - see if they have the software for the camera - and the delaer, to determine this action would not void the warranty.

The warranty on the car would not be affected. The new parts would not be covered under warranty by the manufacturer, however we would cover them under our warranty

There's currently no way to record the camera being installed (regardless of whatever people may say) as there's no official retrofit kit with SVM document for the Octavia IV. Otherwise, the parts would be included under the manufacturer warranty once recorded.

Picking up my car tomorrow and enquired with dealer who rang a guy and quoted nearly 1k fitted!

I’m in East Anglia does anyone know if there are any local places to me who might be able to do this.

A drive to East Yorkshire is not out of the question and I seem to recall there is a lovely chippy in Bridlington but it will be one heck of a long day.

if not appropriate for this thread please let me know and I’ll delete just didn’t want to start a new one with this question.

Fyi, I had a backup camera installed recently in my 2023 Octavia Style because I hadn't been able to order it with that trim back then. They installed the original one, did the diagnostics, programing and coding, as well as the callibration. The whole thing is covered under warrenty. The official Skoda dealer had a subcontractor that performed all the work.

Does anyone have a product code for this camera. I have found a garage close to me who retrofit all VAG however when they checked against my VIN they said there is no retrofit camera available they only use OEM kit. So slightly confused as I had booked with vw retrofit but they let me down last minute and to be honest could do with out the long drive to get there.

I don't suppose you're doing any New Year deals on this? 😜

Unfortunately not, we can barely keep up with them at the current price 😎

Fair enough! I'll have to see how I'm fixed later in the year.

I Bought the Pelsee P10 Mirror Dash Cam and hard wired it.

I have my VRS on a lease so didn't want to pay for a retro fit reversing camera.

Cost me about £120 plus £10 for the wiring kit.

Had it over 3 months now and it does the job well. It has a few little gimmicks like lane assist etc. but no wifi.

Rear camera is on the inside of rear window and you can adjust the camera angle as needed form the mirror it self but I have mine set to how I like it.

Hope that helps

Does the retrofit get logged to the vehicle's build data, or is there a risk an OTA update to the software might mess up all your hard work?

It's currently impossible to record a reversing camera retrofit on the Octavia (despite the false claims other companies make). If/when it does become possible, then we'll do it.

An OTA update will never affect the installation. What could is a dealer/independent such as ourselves carrying out an update that results in an online software configuration or a replacement control module being installed which again would require online configuration.

Thankfully, the camera itself will never be affected. The worst that could happen is we would post a diagnostic adapter to the customer which would allow us to reinstate the camera remotely with minimal inconvenience to the customer.  🙂
