I’m currently in the market for a Skoda Fabia, used or new and was wondering which to go for. I’ve had my eyes on the 1.4 TSI vRS, and the 1.4 VRS DSG.

What’s the difference between the two, which one should I opt for and why?

Welcome,

All Fabia Mk2 vRS have a 7 speed Twin Dry Clutch DSG.  2010-2014/15.    You get a hatch or estate.

Turbo charged and supercharged.

2010-12 the engine is known as the CAVE and 2012-2014 it was the CTHE that was fitted.

1,800 CAVE engine cars and 1,100 CTHE's.   About 700 of these are estates.

Best look in the Fabia Mk2 Section and you will get to see plenty posts on vRS's

There are lots of things you need to be aware of before buying.

There are good cars out there, you just need to find them and know what the issues can be and why some are very cheep.

Not everything said in vids is actually correct.

Tuning, remapping / tuning boxes were easy on the CAVE even when they locked the ECU and lots here did it before 2012,

and the CTHE were not getting remapped right away as APR / REVO could not do them.

There is a member here that had an APR dealer try and messed up.

They are absolutely designed so that the Super Charger is up to 3,500 rpm, but the Turbo and Super Charger can work together from 2,400 rpm to 3,500.

So when you are booting one this is often where the ooomph is.

Also where issues occur if there is one bad spark plug which there often was hence wrecked engines.

The issues were not all sorted in 2012 they were still there for some just less common.

There are early cars still going just fine and early DSG's.  But they are getting on now as are CTHE's.

SKODA UK might not even tell you the engione has been replaced or the replacement engine replced,

SKODA UK were never open on anything and never admitted any issues.

He failed to manage to get it mapped by APR.

It does not get much quicker with the Super Charger cover removed.

He has vids before this where the car run badly on the TMC tuning box, and one where he was selling his G?F's car, this car.

Skoda never fixed them.  VW had new components used in the CTHE and different engine management.
