Noise from both LHS (? top mount area) and steering motor

I hope the 'fix' lasts longer than it did for our car. From memory the noise recurred several weeks after the application of the grease.

I will post here when I hear sound again so we can see how long did it last. And then I will take car to them to do it again. Last time they did it without asking for any money, warranty is still on. It was on August 20th. It is Škoda service, and I still don't see entry in digital service plan over app.

Our was previously investigated, but the noise came and went, but appears to be more evident with the onset of the warmer weather.    The dealer took another look earlier and are now we fitt

Same here - just checked the digital certificate and see a mention for the steering repair ('Authorized warranty repair' ) but no mention of subsequent attempt(s) to resolve the issue under warranty.

It's quite weird driving ours now and it not making the noise!   Odd how some Karoqs do it and some don't.  Ours was 16mths old when we bought it and had only done 4K, and we've only done another 4K in a year so I wonder if it's lack of use?  On one visit the dealer gave us an identical courtesy car with 13K on it and that didn't make the same noise even in places where ours always did it.

Indeed - I almost missed the noise after the first 2 attempts to fix whilst under warranty!

Stockholm sindrome 🤣

Sound is back! More people in the car, more sound.

Same for me - hoping to take mine in for a further attempt at rectification shortly

The supplying dealer took a look at the car yesterday and said they've seen similar issues with other Karoq's and now plan to change the front antiroll bar - car booked in shortly and I'll report back regarding any improvement 👍

Car has gone in for a further attempt at rectification and I'm taking the opportunity to test drive a 2024 1.0 TSi DSG Kamiq - keen to experience the DSG gearbox

We thought the Kamiq was a little odd to be honest.

The manual handbrake and DSG made for an odd combination, although this comes from my other Automatic car having both an electric handbrake and autohold and 30k miles in a manual Karoq,

The 1.0 TSi was fairly smooth and quiet at speed, but I appreciate the extra power of the 1.5.

The car itself seemed better screwed together than my 2023 Karoq and was generally quieter and less prone to in-cabin rattles.

The main reason for driving it though was the DSG and whilst it's certainly smooth in operation I'm undecided if I could live with it on a daily basis.

Suspect I need to try a 2.0 TSi Karoq (or even VW Tiguan?).

In what respect are you undecided ?

I changed to my first DSG about 3 yrs ago, mainly due to getting old and a slightly painful left knee! I don't think I'd want to go back to manual now, the DSG is so much more relaxing to drive. There are a couple of situations in my normal drive where I tend to drop into manual, to either prevent an upshift too early or too many downshifts when braking going downhill. My previous 2021 Karoq didnt have flappy paddles but switching to sport mode and back using the shifter handled most situations. The current one has paddles and are perhaps a slight benefit.

Probably just a consequence of my lack of familiarity with DSG (and a nagging thought of previously reported reliability concerns).

I did try a new Kodiak 1.5 TSi DSG when collecting the Karoq and found that a noticeably better drive, although the car itself is too big for our needs.

I had wondered if the e-Tec / mild hybrid aspect of the Kodiak was significant?

from what I can see , the 1.5 mild hybrid (E-tec) has exactly the same power and torque figures as the normal 1.5. Maybe the torque curve is different but I suspect not, the mild hybrid is probably purely there to improve fuel efficiency.

Admittedly this is referring to the 1.0  TSi in an Octavia, but would appear to suggest the mild hybrid system does in some way provide a 'boost' to the engine.

'The mild hybrid system can also recover energy during braking and store it in the battery and support the combustion engine by providing it with an electric boost

My take after driving the e-Tec 1.5 TSi DSG Kodiak was it felt noticeably 'snappier' from a standstill than the 1.5 TSi DSG Kamiq.

Well, yes the mild hybrid can obviously provide additional power. Looking at the specs though, the maximum power and torque of the hybrid and non-hybrid engines are the same. What may well be the case is that the hybrid provides additional power lower down the rev range, so in effect you get more torque at lower rpm. Without seeing the torque curves for both hybrid and non-hybrid, its difficult to say but that could certainly be why it feels 'snappier'.

There is nothing really odd about the Kamiq, Scalla & then the Fabia which is in it's 4th generation having a DSG and parking / emergency / hand brake rather than an e-brake / parking brake / finger brake.

Many a driver is pleased for the KISS principle.

Mk 2 Fabia DSG,s have been that way since 2010.

Replacement antiroll bar now fitted, although after manoeuvring in a multistorey car park last night it became clear the noise remains.

I suspect I'd become acclimatised to any combination of drivetrain/operating controls, although first impressions for my partner and I were not positive.

It appears the 1.5 TSi e-Tech / DSG is available in Octavia, Superb and Kodiak, but not Kamiq or Karoq?

Is this because Karoq / Kamiq are at the end of their life cycles, or is there some other reason the mild hybrid / DSG combo is not available in Kamiq / Karoq?

Hi @Rory can you just confirm if this fix has stood the test of time. I bought a Karoq a year ago and it’s done it since I had it and it drives me crazy. Before I sell it as a result I thought I’d try what they did to your dampers if it has continued to work. Cheers Nath

I have Octavia 3 and there is noise when manoeuvring at low speed, is this the noise you are complaining of? Never really bothered me but it is there. Sure there is a bulletin about it and power steering motor.

Mine has had all the bulletins and a new steering motor.

The noise remains 😬

I wouldn't like to swear either way - we don't use the car much so it's only done a couple of K miles since the "fix" and the car is rarely loaded, which is when the noise is most noticeable.  I thought I did hear it the other day when reversing and turning on a slope, but I haven't noticed it in other driving but it never really did it with one or two of us in the car.  Will have 4 adults in the car in a couple of weeks.

Thanks for the reply.  I got the silicon grease today and installed it as per the instructions. Went on a brief ride out and the noise had gone with two of us in the car. Mine had got really bad and was doing it with just the driver in the car. It started off only doing it when there was a few people in the car. I had a feeling it might be the dampers after reading some posts about people changing them but I hadn’t realised about that bulletin. Fingers crossed it stays quiet as it was going to be sold imminently as a result.

Can I just check the noise you guys are hearing is the same as mine. Can be slow speed and turning or steady speed on rough road, a sort of clacking noise? Mines front left and seems to be when turning or just after turning.

The garage I bought the car from thought it was the gearbox and subsequently paid a lot of money to have it rebuilt (DQ200 dsg7) Took them 2 weeks and today I’ve done a good 60 miles with no noise. Then nipped out earlier and definitely still heard it. Albeit not as bad. But it’s still there. I feel bad taking it back again and insisting it’s the suspension. As they checked it and usually can’t replicate the noise.

Sounds like mine. It also does it when i apply the brakes as im slowing down over uneven roads. Mine is awful now again and passengers comment on it. The lubricant works for about 2-3 weeks but i got fedup of applying it. Iv had the car two years nearly and iv started looking at other cars. It’s been in so many times to the garage it’s embarrassing. It’s not a car I would buy again.

Have they not replaced the shocks? Surly an aftermarket set won’t have the same

Issue?
