Winter Wheel Pictures & Recommendations

Featured Replies

After ordering a Superb Sportline TDI last week, I'm now in that 3 month limbo waiting for news of when it will arrive (that I'm sure you are all too aware..!)

I've started looking at winter wheels (assuming it will arrive sometime close when I'll need to change over.)

I didn't find a "Winter Wheels Photos" thread like there was on the Octavia forum.

I have the homologated tyres sizes for the Superb (from the thread here & the dealer) & will almost definitely go from 19" to 17" for winter.

Does anyone have any suggestions/recommendations for winter wheels for the superb?
I've ordered the DragonSkin yellow so I'm assuming something grey/black will look good & be easy to keep clean.

I have the 17" Dezent TD Anthracites on my Octavia which I'm really pleased with.

No issues at all after 9 years & in much better condition that the Skoda wheels which were 4x the price.

I run these as my winters.

  • I was in Germany at the weekend & saw this superb with Alutec alloys that I thought looked pretty nice (18s rather than 17s though). The anthracite will look good with the DragonSkin I think

Hi,

I also have 19" summer wheels and 17" winter wheels.

The latter ones are black Tritons. They are very easy to clean:

Can you use the ones from the Octavia?

I went the other way as my stock size was 18. I fitted cross climates (to be swapped for full winters) to those when I first got the car. Then got a set of 19 Audi les mans for summer.

Just make sure the 17s fit over the brakes.

I cant see the images you posted but I already looked at the Skoda "official" wheels & they are very expensive.

Even with the "discount" the dealer offered on winter wheels when I ordered the car it was still >2400CHF for a set.
Where would you buy them?

The reason I chose the Dezent TD wheels for the Octavia was they were "identical" to the official Golf wheels but €100 each instead of €450 for the "official" ones.

As I understant Dezent was the manufacurer for the Golf wheels & they were just "resold" by VW at a big markup.

Personally I think the black wheels look better than the silver colours when you have smaller wheels and bigger winter tyres.

Thanks for this, there are really many more wheels than are actually offered through the dealer here.
Agree, would also prefer anthracite or black wheels for the winter so I dont have to worry about washing them each week.

For the moment I am keeping the Octavia, so I will need the winter wheels but it was my first idea because they look in much better condition that the original vRS wheels (probably due to the smaller profile so less easy to ping on the curbs.)

But on closer inspection the ET doesnt work for the Superb (I have ET48 & Superb needs ET41 for snow chains or ET40 for 17").

I was looking at buying another set but I dont see them mentioned on the Dezent website any longer.

Did you do the obligatory willtheyfit.com measurement? If the wheels are narrower than the superb fitment they might work.

In Switzerland to pass the TuV check you need the same dimensions as the original manufacturers homologates sizes.

So I believe it would be mandatory to have ET40 or ET41 for 17s

When you looked at the Skoda "official" wheels, were they in the Skoda accessories catalogue?

These are much cheaper than factory wheels, often less than half the price.

In the Skoda accessories catalogue, 6.5Jx17 ET41 and 7jx17 ET40 rims for the Superb MK3 are about £200 each. So including Barum winter tyres, you should be able to get a set of 4 winter wheels for about 1,500CHF.

It was the "special" offer from the dealer while I was ordering the new car.

But you are right, In Switzerland the main VW reseller AMAG sell their own acessory wheels through the brand "Gamaparts".

For the Octavia one of the gamaparts wheels they offered was the a rebadged Dezent TD, which I paid ~200chf a rim+Conti wintersport from MyTyres instead of 450chf through the garage.

I will ask them for a price for the official Skoda rims to compare...

eBay in the UK is so great, with the combination of price & choice.

There is really nothing comparable here.

I might have to arrange a new car road trip to come and collect...

The factory 17" wheels fit nicely on my 280 (summer is the 18 inch), this is a similar car (not mine):

My winter wheel set is shown in my Project Log. If you can find them they won't be expensive as they're not a cool looking wheel - I got a set of 4 for £300.

The ebay link that I posted for the VW Passat B8 wheels (same specification as the Superb MK3) was from a German seller.

I run these as my winters.

Try the spare parts Department, the parts numbers are in the brochure

In theory should be able to give you a price and check availability for each.

Might be sales teams were offering limited selection of expensive ones.

Oddly Skoda sometimes has 2 parts numbers, one for accessories, one for spares, for same item, and prices are different.  Might also find prices are different if you drive to Germany or Italy etc.  Obviously not worth it for small difference but if it is €100 per wheel then might be.

The anthracite will look good with the DragonSkin I think & will look better during the winter with all the mess on the roads.

Really like the colour in the metal.

I couldn't bring myself to order white or grey again & the rest of the Superb colours are aimed at the more aged population.

It was a toss up between the special red or dragon skin.

I'm at the point now where I've almost convinced myself to go with 18"s for winters instead of stepping down 2 sizes.

The Skoda wheel choice is much better in 18", as is the aftermarket & for around £100 a corner you can get some very nice wheels (without tyres).

Waiting for the garage to give me a price for these in anthracite.

They look pretty cool & also easy to clean which is a bonus with all the stuff that's ok the roads here in the winter.

I ordered them from Caffyns Skoda and seat parts online. Very nice to deal with and no issues.
wheels are handy to clean and keep over the winter months. Just had to try a bit harder for a touch up in Matt for the odd stone chip, but otherwise have been great when the snow did arrive, and no problems with sourcing 18” winter tyres.

If a dragon Green was available I’d have had one
